Video Player for PC

Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I am not entering the world of VJing, but looking at maybe using a laptop more for my race nights (especially in their new form). I am looking for a simple video player for a PC where basically I can click on a file and it will play to a projector, leaving me with my normal desktop. Virtual DJ will do it, but would rather something a bit simpler and ideally free (which would help a future project).

Searching about it does look like Virtual DJ could be the only real valid option though unless any nice person out there knows of an alternative.

I use virtual dj Chris for my race nights and also windows media player works as well, Also try VLC

If you want to use video outside DJ application... I recommend VLC Player (Free) and is very good...

Cheers Hammy. Windows media player would be ideal but find it slow and cumbersome. May persevere.

VDJ is a very good choice, I have tried many around 30 or so different programs and always go back to VDJ, it plays almost every format and It ties in with the mixer which most wont do, it's much faster than media player etc, it can output to more than one screen without problems. VLC tends to be over complicated when it comes to outputting to a second screen, I also believe it uses more system resorces. Strange really when VDJ's primary purpose is to mix music and media players sole purpose is to play media, by default it supports hardly any basic formats.

I thought you used MediaMonkey, Chris? MM4 plays video now. It's free, as you well know! Not sure about the options for outputting to a second screen, though, as I've never tried to do that. But I do use it regularly to watch films on my laptop - it's better than WMP which, in my opinion, is far too stuttery to use in a professional environment.

The only thing I'd say about using VDJ for playing videos is, when playing HD movies, then sometimes the sound gets a little out of sync to the video. Other than that, and if playing standard resolution video, then it's VDJ all the way for me, too.

Forgot all about media monkey now doing video - I have the full paid version so will check that when home tonight, cheers

We play mainly 1080 and 720p videos and it's never gone out a sync, Ive had other weird things happen with other laptops we used to use when playing 1080p, for example now and then the VDJ would lock up, but by doing ctrl alt del and then simply canceling the screen it brings up would recover it every time, but it used to be annoying hinderance, that would happen maybe 1-2 times at a 4-5 hour gig playing videos. The laptop we use now it's no problems at all, so I suspect your gfx card is not up really to the job of hd that's why you get the sync problems, as I know vdj does play hd without this problem on ours.

Well I never. If Media Monkey now plays video, that's another feather in its cap. Foolishly, I paid for a Gold version 3, believing that I wouldn't need a version 4. Silly me. :o Should have got a lifetime one.
