I don't offer it as a service but I did my first one three weeks ago and it went very well. The only thing I was concerned about was the number of headsets that got broken by the end of the night. There was at least 20 of them not working but I'm not sure if that was the norm.

I do couple a year that go down well. However at this rate it is not worth buying the equipment rather I hire it. As a rough guide the headsets are about £20 each and hireing is about £2 per set.

I personally can't see the outlay being worth the return. I think most people looking for silent discos will be the same ones looking for the cheapest disco, but with all the added expensive equipment.

I looked into this as it was a service I wanted to offer.
The ones that I have witnessed have been brilliant but I am unsure as to whether it's viable to do it.

thanks for all comments so far - the head sets are the biggest outlay from my research so far at around £20 to 25 when bought in bulk, has anyone sourced cheaper? would it be worth getting cheaper?

When I looked into it, the whole package was around £2500.00. That including the playout system and 100 pairs of headphones and all the other bits and bobs.

We did 3 in a weekend recently and they are brilliant to do.
We used 3 channel systems so had 3 DJs working, it did take some getting used to having no PA though.

There were 360 headsets at the start of the weekend and after 3 gigs we were down to just under 300!

Some were broken wires, some not charging, but some were broken plastic parts.

The hire company accepted the broken ones as within normal limits, so parts must be cheap for them!

Great feedback, but I can't see our normal customers using them enough to justify the initial outlay.

I would say hire them in for the odd time, and if you do find a market then buy some later.

Ok I'm going to resurrect this post!

There are a couple of reasons, as its something I have pondered doing, the last post was Oct 2012 so I would imaging that those who have been doing it a while will be able to say if the silent discos have been successsful or not.
Now, hardware wise, the systems described seem to use IR or FM (presumably), has anyone considered wireless streaming to android/ iphones as an option, I think alsomst everyone now will have one of these and some headphones? ideas?
