Sound in barns

I am running a disco this weekend at a local farm for their fireworks party.

They have a basic barn converted to house play equipment and I will be situated in here.

I am trying to make up my mind what speaker setup to use, will I be ok with my trusty skytec 15" actives or will I need to get the bigger setup with the amp and subs.

Has anyone worked in a barn - not the fancy conversions that are common for wedding venues!

Millions---perhaps a slight exaggeration:D

My last one was in Middlesbrough and it was a nightmare.

Huge brick built thing and sounded like the inside of Middlesbrough Station.

I did some train announcements ---not sure the locals appreciated my southern humour:rolleyes:

The answer is it usually sounds terrible so I would take some subs to help the sound.

I did use my Peavey UL15s which are full range earlier in the year in a couple of big metal barns and actually that sounded better than using subs.

If you can--- try and get your working area defined---as there are other things in the barn--say in one corner so you are not trying to fill the whole barn--but just the area near your speakers. Then you dont need to be so loud.

Ceiling height is the killer for sound.
