Army Barracks work

Am starting to cover some work for company called stellamax doing army base/barracks work etc etc

But he is now starting to pass me work well out of my area ie aldershot, money isnt super duper but the regularity of the work is constant if you have a class show. you get fed and watered and you only work after the band has done its show. I already have passed him onto the directory but he is getting quiet a few knock backs from some guys here (must be price wise) I can only ask to try to accommodate him with your disco's if you aint booked and if its near to your location

Lets try to give our guys coming home from Iraq and Afgahanistan a good nights entertainment, most bookings are coming up for December currently. but the happen all year round dependant upon troop movements

Don't want to get into a debate about money, but I know that the forces normally have quite a large budget for entertainment, so I can't really understand why they would be getting knock backs price wise?

He contacted me a little while ago and I'm afraid we were one of the ones who gave him a 'knock back': nothing against the gentleman or his company, we just didn't 'click' and our working practices appeared to be very different, so I didn't think that we would work well together.

However, we did have quite a long chat, and from what he was telling me, he is looking for DJs with fairly large shows with around a dozen or so lighting effects. He also told me that there would almost always be an early set up and that gigs quite often went on until at least 3 or 4am.

I did a number of these about 15 years ago at Colchester. They are an excellent night and the Forces really did look after us (money, food accomodation).

It is a very late finish but there's the meal and the Bacon sarnies at 3am.

I remember arriving there one year and the equipment was unloaded abd carried (and re-loaded later !) by them.

And the raffle ...... forget boxes of chocolates, try washing machines ..... which would last about 90 mins !!!!!!!!!!

... oh, and just one thing to clarify, he isn't an 'Agent' as such - he's an event organiser and puts in a quote for the whole job rather than broken down into £x for this and £y for that.

He told me that you set your own price, but that he would obviously only use those that he felt was offering best value. (eg if the quote was too high, he'd look elsewhere as he wouldn't get the job if he put in a high quote)

He also mentioned how little customer loyalty there was with the armed forces (which surprised me, because it hasn't been our experience)

But we've been used to the RAF mainly not the Army :)

True -but they are still armed forces, and the gentleman I spoke to didn't limit it to 'Army Barracks' as this thread says, hw was just talking about armed forces events

agreed Angela, we do quite a lot of work for the Forces, and they are very loyal
