Is it dead? I thought it was still busy and thriving, I don't post much unless I have a question but still take time to read through old threads which I imagine quite a few do as well :)

Other Facebook groups and forums that have sprung up all over the place I guess?

For some months I have been engaged on helping to expand my sons Rodeo Bull business which has involved a heck of a lot of my time even though im officially retired.:daft:

My own work has slowed a bit which has been a bonus allowing me time to get involved with building various Western Theme Props etc.

I dont do FB --but according to an ex member on here--thats where a lot of people talk about DJing these days.

I am starting a new business venture (non disco related), so a lot of my time (and money) is tied up with that.

No, it isn't dead. Just as many threads and posts as per normal. :)

Yep. Just less :BS: I think. Therefore less controversy and fallings out.

That'll be why :zip:

Really?

In the main forum theres 4 or 5 days between posts/threads, hence why its so quiet. Used to be new posts and discussions all the time.

Ditto, mainly concentrating on my new photography business and getting to grips with digital photography in general (not as easy as it looks lol)

Does all of the above mean that the majority of DJ's on here are busy diversifying their businesses? That doesn't paint a pretty picture of the market for pure DJ/Disco Entertainment?

We have certainly diversified away from just solely doing discos! Still read the boards on a daily basis though :)

I too also don’t just offer discos, I now offer Buffets and Balloons, I have all the necessary training, Skills and Qualifications so why let them go to waste when I can top up the pennies and make paying the bills easier :)

I think that by and large, with the exception of a relatively small proportion of die-hards, mobile DJ'ing is a highly transient profession.

Over the years I've seen so many names come and go which simply isn't reflected in other business segments I've been involved with.

So...what are the good FB groups to Join? (in addition to my regular check ins on here, of course)

I'd welcome the chance to network on an FB DJ group....but typing in "Mobile Disco" into facebook search seems to bring up little else but Simian Mobile Disco

There are not that many full timers when compared to par timers. No idea on the percentage of serious DJ's, but I would imagine its high?
I am currently just a DJ, but I do get itchy feet and want to do other things as its a lonely life sitting at home all day :)

I use to come on here and post more when I was still fairly new to the industry and had tons of questions for which I had no answer.

Thanks to the forum I've made lots of contacts in the industry (who naturally I interact with more offline now) and its certainly helped my game to the point where I am working more and being focused on that.

Certainly FB groups will have an impact but it has to be said I've not found one (apart from the MDD one) where it isn't full of.......keyboard warriors (only family friendly way of putting it) so check in on here regularly more to answer other peoples questions rather than asking them myself.

Maybe the campaign to encourage the use of the 'Search' facility is finally bearing fruit ? ;)

It did, a month or so ago.. If you mean the "layout" didn't technically change (although I would've thought it was obvious what I meant). Then I will rephrase my post to I don't like to new UI.

That's fair enough. If aesthetics are the main issue with some then we can live with that. As the forum was (formerly) it was breaking down behind scenes, with more and more going wrong on a weekly basis. The software upgrade was a necessity to ensure the service we provide remained stable and operational. There were a few teething issues for the first few weeks (with people being directed to a 'What's New' page), but that was resolved as quickly as possible.

Whilst we're never going to please everyone, the changes behind the scene have made the forum and directory stable once again, and will hopefully allow us to add new features at a later date. All in all the changes are definitely for the better.

I have to say it's a great improvement.Previously I couldn't access any new posts most of the time and I seem to recall a few members having similar difficulties.
Now I have no problems.
