Has anyone else had any of these?

I had an enquiry come through yesterday afternoon via my website and the enquiry form.
It wasn't really an enquiry, it was a blatant case of a publication using the enquiry form as a way of getting their information to me with reference to advertising.
I won't say who it was but I replied to them politely saying that the enquiry form was for genuine customers who were enquiring about Disco Entertainment or other services and I thought it was a bit of a cheek to use the form to try and sell me advertising. I haven't received a reply but I didn't expect one anyway.

Firstly, they could have easily contacted me via the contact link, my email address or phone number. Why go to the trouble of filling out an enquiry form?
Are they that desperate that they need to try and sell to this way?

Anyone else had the same thing?

I have had a couple, usually telling me how they can get me on page 1 of google. I had one company a few months ago contact me this way - I called them as I've never heard of them. Searched Google and found them on page 20 odd. Needless to say I told them how are you going to get me on page 1 when you can't even get yourselves on page 1 :confused:

I used to get this all the time (and the forms are usually submitted by robot code, not by a real person) so I added a few bits of code to my contact form to prevent them from being able to automatically submit my form again.

Things are a lot quieter now, but I do occasionally get one or two slip through.

Have to agree here. I get them and dont really pay too much attention..

Plus side - At least people are finding your website...

Companies need to get pro-active to survive. Some people will buy when approached by this method.

When I was working in a high-pressured sales environment - I would try every trick in the book :D

It was only today I had to tell someone I wasn't interested if they were selling a form of advertising (started off trying to offer a free listing)

Firstly, Neil... I didn't see your reply as blunt so no worries there.
Secondly, Mike...No, it wasn't 'Best Of', I spoke to them many moons ago, probably around when I first went self employed and the guy behind 'Best Of' more than likely thought I was a 'newbie' on the scene that didn't get how it all worked and thought I was there for the taking.
I know people have to try all the tricks etc and fair play to them. As I said, it's a first for me. I didn't realise that it was a common thing but I've never worked in sales.

I've deleted the email and emptied the folders now (needed a clean up anyway) but if I remember correctly it was something like Surrey Weddings.
