Not heard all video cause lost signal on phone but I know many resident djs like myself in the past are recommended by hotels and they come directly to myself. Also some resident djs I know are very good and it's not saying going directly to a more expensive Dj that they would be any better.
I will watch it all later

Thats just how you want them, the perfect relationship.

Which I did miss in the video, might have to make another to include this because not ALL hotels are fee earning monsters.. Some actually do, do a good job. Its the majority that ruin it

Obviously aimed at potential clients so more of an effort dress wise would have been more professional.
It can be frustrating for customers who already know a Dj and want them to do their event only to find a venue being difficult about it. But those who know what they want will argue their case and usually get their own way. Those venues who try to charge a fee for their Dj who is NOT used, I refer the customer to trading standards and advise them to tell the venue this is what they are doing. The venue pretty soon drop the charge.
To say that the customer always has a choice is not always true as some venues will only sell the package and if you don't like it they won't move on it. In most cases the venue is more important to the client than the Dj so they will accept the situation.
Having said all that. it can never do any harm to point out this issue to clients and the more information and opinion out there for them the better. I do a similar thing on my website and also cover bar prices, ambient lighting, smoke detectors etc.
First time bookers can be very naive so the more information they can arm themselves with will help them make a more educated decision.

Many of the better hotels and venues in and around Norwich have agencies they book through so it is the same as if they had resident DJ's, in fact harder to get in there as the agency will always have a DJ available.
Having been around even longer than some of the agencies I will not work for them as they don't pay a lot. A mate was telling me the other week he worked at Norwich Football Club, in one of the many suites, and he is getting fed up with what the agency pays him. Peanuts compared to private gigs he says.

Here's some honest feedback.

All your videos come across as a meandering stream of consciousness.

Most of the time you're scaremongering and you obviously have an agenda, and it really does come across that you have a chip on your shoulder.

You patronise your viewers.

In this one you talk about splitting up with your wife, that actually made me cringe - it's a video aimed at brides!!

The points you make could be covered in 30 seconds - the other 5 minutes is just waffle or repetition.

Image is important - dress smartly. If you want to be listened to and taken seriously dressing appropriately makes a big difference. And if you don't think it matters then you really don't understand what brides are looking for (and it isn't a scruffy bloke in his living room in front of a webcam).

If you continue with your videos - script them and rehearse them, cut them right down so they are to the point. Dress smartly, stand up when presenting, project some energy, have a DJ or wedding related background, create some sort of identity so there's continuity between your videos.

Some of it may be vaguely correct in some circumstances, the majority of it is basically, as has already been said, a veiled attempt to scare monger. The word professional is used, but these are not the actions of a professional!

I have been putting off watching this but had a quick look just now :)
i can see the point of it and you come across quite well, but not for any would be bride.
It would be OK for a builder explaining the benefits of a house renovation or not doing DIY perhaps.

Firstly advertising on a negative is not the best thing to do, in any case. i would have advised the clients to meet the in-house DJ.
If they did not want to meet them or were not what they wanted then they can make a move to you. Clients are not silly.

Saying you split up with your wife made me laugh. ;) Its probably not funny for you but they don't want to hear that
there are lots of me and I (I can do that, this etc.) in it and not much advice about the client and what you can do for them.

Lastly how many wedding are not fun interesting & ingaging?

And also appearance and location as has been said.

Nice attempt but a rethink needs to be made before that goes anywhere near your website as you will loose clients not gain them :)

Like Toby, I also put off watching this. I wasn't sure what to expect.
Firstly, the positive thing I found was that the information you did give with reference to those hotels that do charge a fee etc was actually interesting and will be of big help to potential Brides & Grooms looking at hotels for their wedding venue. It will give them some ammunition and they may ask the hotel directly what the score is with reference to resident DJ's.

I have to say though (and it's been said already), not all hotels operate this way. I have 2 (well 3 now actually) residencies and they will always recommend me but it doesn't mean that the customer has to have me. If they want to book their own DJ then that's fine. All the hotel asks is that the Disco or DJ that they choose is covered with PLI and PAT.

I find myself agreeing with a numbe of the other comments on your video.
I think it could have been shot better, scripted etc... I think it would have been a really good idea to do something like this with a friend videoing you. You could have been walking around the grounds of a nice hotel or stately home and dressed smartly. It would have looked much more professional but hold on....I couldn't have done it so thumbs up to you for giving it a go.

Got your point across several time - A little part of me thinks you may be wee bit bitter and twisted with your local hotel that uses resident DJs ???????

I feel really down now as well as I played Superman a few weeks ago ;)

Tbh though Toby your in a different league to me yet with your videos promotional material so hats off to you mate.

Me and Editing at the Moment dont mix, I cant get the hang of it..

Cue another Video

PLEASE DO NOT POST VIDEOS WITH POTENTIALLY SLANDEROUS COMMENTS ABOUT OTHER DJ COMPANIES.

Im glad actually you have all been pretty positive (I was kicked off a FB Group because they don't get it) so actually this forum has changed quite a bit and like it :-)

Sure I need to dress up, Sure my skills and preparation were not on the ball to be Brian Reid or DJ Tutor or anyone like that..

Quite a few DJs on here and brides on fb pages were commenting on my jumpers in previous videos I made so it was kind of a running trend.

I dont have a friend with a video camera thats competent in editing and all the wedding videographers I know wanted a small fortune so I am limited to what tools I have..

Im actually bitter and twisted about gig pig agents who charge nothing to these big hotels and put djs in who are payed nothing and are totally undervalued for what they do regardless of gear and ability..

The main point was to get Brides and Grooms to look for what they want, and I cant help a bit of self promotion I think its in anyones nature to at least try and get them on-side to call me..

I've just sat there and watched the 2nd video you've posted on here (the one with you in you Starsky & Hutch type jumper ).
I have to agree that you really are not doing yourself any favours. I think this could be more damaging then good for you.
If I were you (and I don't know how many views on YouTube you are getting or how many bookings you are getting)...I would take them down as soon as possible.
Not only are you blowing smoke up the backsides of people you obviously rate (do they know they are in this video, do they realise that they are part of a video that disses other Disco operators?) but you are also naming and shaming Discos that you think are rubbish (whether they are or not is not really for you to decide). Putting photos up too is in my opinion, out of order.
If I were one of those in one of the pictures, I'd be on the phone for advice about sueing you.

Honestly, I'm not normally so negative but I think you've not only wasted your time on what could have been a decent enough idea but I really think you could put customers off booking you too. Your own rig picture was up for around 1 second.
Also, sorry to go on BUT...You contradicted yourself too. You mentioned that it wasn't for you to be negative about other peoples rigs but then that's exactly what you WERE doing.

Yes I did get permission for the good rigs but not for the ones I was picking on ;-) Harry, Daley, Simon, Craig and myself, and actually had 4-5 more people wanting in on the new one, with the link backs to their websites and getting a mention etc.

Anyway, I realised I broke the rule on that one, Drinks all round for that one sorry :beer1:

But I was attempting to show my video mixing ability which is RUBBISH..

They can sue me :-) in fact I would welcome it, there is not a slanderous comment in there just personal opinion.. Im only showing people to shop better for DJs and what it can look like v's the pricing debate, what you pay for is what you get!!! :beer1:

But gone well off topic on something thats not relevant to the original post..

I was seeing how far on or off the truth I was in my Resident DJ Video.

Whilst you "would welcome" being sued, we wouldn't. CLick and read the link below and think before you post any more videos on the forum. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be libel on a video posted on Youtube rather than slander?

slander is when it's spoken, even if it is on a video (as far as I know anyway).

slander is when it's spoken, even if it is on a video (as far as I know anyway).
It technically becomes a published work. Maybe either could apply.

Either way, it has no place on a forum intended for use by professionals
