Hi,

Noticed these at the BPM show and was wondering if anyone had purchased one?

at £90 a pop with bag it seems quite expensive.

Other than build one out of PVC pipe does anyone else have any suggestions for alternatives or are these the "bees knees" in limbo poles?

I bought a wooden version a while, cost about £20 - it's stable enough on it's wooden X piece stands, and the uprights split in two for easy packing. Unless you're planning to use it a lot I don't see why you'd need a more expensive version (though if the one you show was around £45 I'd have probably gone for it.)

Thanks for the reply - I thought £90 was a tad steep, but if it's built rock solid and will last then I guess it's "worth it".

Two brush handles, pack of screws, garden cane, and two MDF offcuts for the bases. +£4.50 tops, including labour. Simples. :D:D

search the forum for limbo and go to page 2. There you'll see a thread started by me which shows a very easy to make limbo pole that weighs and costs next to nothing.

Ironically I did exactly the same as you. I used sticky back plastic to decorate the pole and spray painted the uprights and bases bright red. It's been in service for 5yrs now and is yet to need any repair, unlike the wooden £20.00 ones I used to hire out to people which usually lasted less than an hour!

I've got one and I know two other guys who've bought them.

Totally different class to the wooden thing I used to use. Packs down small, sets up in seconds, very stable, packs away even quicker, BRILLIANT.

Brian, they weren't at the show, there was a flyer in the bag everyone was offered when they got their wristband.

Cheers peeps

Brian, sorry I can't help you as to the location of the poles, for I didn't see them myself. May I urge you to pop across to the Newbies section to introduce yourself, it's painless ( unless you get a finger trapped in the keyboard or something :D:D)and often helps us to offer advice to folk. Thank you.

I found that the ones off the shelf don't do low enough so I made one myself.

2 x thick dowling rods
1 x thin dowling rod
2 x plastic patio parasol bases

Used picture hanging tacks to rest the horizontal pole on and spray painted neon orange.

Does the job :D

ah yes..... not paying attention again!!

Not sure about the benefits of aluminium, the PVC pipe ones are very strong and, if they do get knocked over, they are very light so won't cause injury. I've since covered mine in bright purple and pink dotted sticky backed plastic and stuck some mini plastic palm trees in the top so it looks the biz.

I was thinking the same about injury if it does go over.

Similar to others, we've used plastic pipe, but we've used round mic stand bases for the bottom. The pipe has been covered with bamboo-patterned sticky-back plastic and hibiscus flower stickers. Rounded-end coat hooks at several points on the uprights hold the cross bar at whatever height is needed, and a couple of palm tree decorations are stuck in the top to complete the look :D

Now that would be good.

Just might inspire me to make one! :beer1:

Went through the pros and cons and decided to opt for the professional one manufactured by http://www.entertainment-by-design.co.uk

I have received it today and it really is well manufactured, comes with a bag so you can neatly store it away when not being used.

I have just used my wooden one again tonight, and yesterday, and the day before , in fact usually at least once per week as I am a children's entertainer. Cost £18 off ebay 4 years ago and all I have had to do is make a new base. 3" x 2" half lap joint with a hole drilled in the middle to take the upright sections. Thought about getting a new one but as DJTrev knows, it is ok at present.

Many thanks to DJTrev for his help earlier tonight at a Youth Club disco where he helped with the Limbo.
