low volume from mic

while doing checks before starting last nights gig, i noticed there was hardly any volume coming from the mic.

the numark mixer has the main mic input to the left of fader 1, and its volume control is normally set at 1/3. Last night, even when turning it up to max, the mic volume was very low.

i connected the same mic (& same cable) to the mixer's other mic input, and it was fine.

I need both mic inputs available for karaoke events (got one next saturday) so need to solve this problem soon.

Anyone had a simmiler issue, and is it fixable, or do i need a new mixer?

was it the same mic you normally use at 1/3 or a different one ( allways best rule the stupidly obviouse out) ?

Hi, yes same mic and cable that I used all the time, Shure SM58

Tried it again last night, same result, very low volume :confused:

Hi, no, not been dropped. As I mentioned it works fine when connected to the second mic input.

I need the two inputs when doing karaoke.

The spare mic & cable are also quiet when connected to 'mic 1' input.

To clarify yo have a mic + lead that works perfectly in one channel of your Numark mixer but not in the other conclusion it must be the input on mixer that is faulty,you say the volume is low when you use the volume control on this channel does it make any difference to the volume even if its low by decreasing it does it reduce the low volume,this is a way of checking if that volume control is working at all.Also is it a comi input jack/xlr type input if so try a lead with a different input device ie if you use a xlr try it with a jack.

Yes, if I turn the volume control the mic volume does adjust, but it's very low even when turned full up.

It is a combined input, jack/xlr. I currently use a jack connection. I'll try a xlr, see what happens.

There's no switch on the main mic input, the other inputs have switches.

It's a Numark CM200usb

i tried it using a xlr cable last night, same result, very low mic volume on main mic input.

got to assume theres something wrong with the jack/xlr socket or the main mic channel :(

That would seem the case,you will find if even if you take the case off it is quite hard to get a good visual view to see if anything is obvious.

Is there a "talkover" button or switch on this mixer which could be on. Also look on the back for a Hi/Lo impedence switch. Has the mic got a Hi/Lo impedence switch. Can't think of anything else so must be faulty socket.
