I did the same several years ago.... but with the 'julienne' additional blade also in operation.
Pulped my digit, hurt like hell........... but a superb 'finger food' spread :D

Hmm. Just wondering why you weren't using the safety handguard? Or is it a blokey thing "Oh, I don't need that - I'm perfectly saf... Aarrghhhh! Quick! Get the first aid kit!! I've lost a leg, now!!!!".

To be fair, these kitchen tools don't look very dangerous seeing as they're "only made of plastic" but their blades are amazingly sharp and dangerous. Especially, I find, the V-Slicer type (I think the JML Super Slicer has a V-Blade). I use a big, heavy steel mandoline in the kitchen - one of the most useful manual tools I have - but you can tell by looking at it that it will hurt you if you don't treat it with respect!!

As they say though, Daryll, once bitten twice shy! I think you'll be more careful next time!! ;)

I see you corrected my spelling (I hadn't closed the window so I was able to check what I'd spelled wrong!). I had missed the "d" out (typo!) and typed it in as "manoline". There's a bit of irony to this as I had actually gone all the way downstairs to the kitchen cupboard to get the box out to the check the spelling as I couldn't remember if it had an "e" on the end or not. When I came back, I typed it with the "e", as it was on the box, and felt quite smug with myself for not calling it a "mandolin" which would have made it the stringed musical instrument that you are referring to. But now I look like a complete :muppet: as I'd missed the "d" out instead!!!

A bit late to this thread but

these things are deadly!!

My sister-in-law chopped the top of her finger off with one of these.

We disposed of ours (Safely) because even with a "guard/protector" I managed to loose the top of my nail and nearly lost the top of a finger!
