Budget Radio Mics

Been a while since I last posted here due to moving house but now back up and running with the tinternet............



I need a set of radio mics for karaoke use, not going to spend a fortune on them as I expect they will be abused like the last set I had.



I know some of you will sugest either spending more on a better quality set or using cable mics but both of those options are a no no.

I have up to £200 for a twin set of mics on a single reciever.

Things I am currently interested in are:

Kam 1940

Kam 1960

LD Eco 2x2

Has anyone used any of the above or is there something out there that would better suit my needs and budget ?

I had the predecessor to the WMS mini 2 dual - it's only the receiver that is different now: Pro's are a very good battery life, quite robust (being light they tend to withstand drops), very compact and post 2012 uk frequencies. Con's, they are what they are but perfectly adequate for karaoke! A word of advice, don't be tempted by KAM. In my experience, they are awful - especially the 1960 HH. The three sets I bought / returned, were possibly the worst made items I have ever seen. The pick up pattern was terrible so they needed to be cranked up with high gain to get any thing from them - of course that means feedback and all the other issues associated with high gain.

I fully understand your point about not using better microphones but on the occasions where you do get a good singer on stage, it seem to me that it is only fair to give them a proper mic. In the long run, they are better value for money. I have used one particular Sennheiser for well over 10 years now and it is still perfect even though it has been dropped and mishandled. When it finally does go wrong, rather than bin it, all of the spare parts are available.

I agree with the new digital miss coming in so the Kams are worth looking at.

BIG THUMBS UP for the AKG mics. Apart from handling noise they are fantastic!!
One AA battery for 30 hours! It has has next to no feedback even when in front of the speaker (I use RCF which may affect that?)

I have used the WMS for five years with no problems. Get the dual mini set. Proper compact.

I acquired a KAM 1940 from Martin ( Vectis) and have been very impressed with the quality, the only downside is the on off switch which crackles after years of use.

Well worth trying.

I can Vouch for the KAM 1940.

I have two sets of these and spares are readily available at a reasonable cost.

Little or no feedback and last for ages on the batteries.

Thumbs up for AKG from me. I'm a new user (though the perception model which is possibly out of your budget range and there isn't in a dual handset model), but after a weekend of heavy use with both handheld and headset mic (indoor PA gig, three kids parties and a Club night) I'm sold on them.

I'm also still on the same pair of AA batteries that they came with :D
