You wouldn't believe how old these scams are. It was a very similar scam (a police publication) that nearly caught me out almost 20 years ago that started me on the anti-scam path that I've followed ever since.

From the sounds of it, this is yet another scam connected with the "allegedly" (don't fancy any more threats of legal action this week!) very dodgy publisher/marketing company Vardis. This company comes up from time and time and gets an unfavourable mention on just about every business forum I've ever looked at. I'd say there was a fair chance of people on here who have been approached by this company to advertise in a "phantom" publication. Similar scams even go as far as using "speculative invoicing" whereby they'll send you a bill for an ad in a publication that you've never even placed in the hope that you will just pay up.

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE SCAMS. Their contracts can be legally binding and you may have to pay up at court stage as it can be very hard to prove that the publications were never produced. If this wasn't the case, these scams would have been shut down by now. Always be very careful of what you are signing your name to.
