Outstanding! Well done to her, and to him. A couple of similar things have happened to us over recent months. My mrs left her purse on the roof of her car, and drove off. We only found out about it when a guy knocked on the door looking for her...he'd been walking his dog when he found it, and wandered away with a £30 bottle of wine. A few weeks earlier, I found £50 hanging out of the cash machine outside Morrisons and handed it in. My kids took the pee considerably, but I thought it was the right thing to do.

There ARE some decent people in this world.
This isn't money related but something decent happened to me the other week actually.
It wouldn't have been a total disaster because I make sure that I update and have copies of everything but I did a wedding at a venue outside town.
At the end of the night I packed away the equipment and left as you do. I didn't realise that I had left behind a small 500G passport hard drive.
I got a call the next day from someone saying that they had found it. Luckily I label items like that just incase something like that happens and it has my name, address and contact number on it. Over 20,000 tracks on it that someone could have easily grabbed for themselves but they didn't. They took the time to call me and then send it back in the post.
I called them back and asked for an email address and then made up a voucher thing which said I'd give them £50.00 off a Disco should they want to book one in the future.

I found 160 quid on the ground in a Tesco Petrol station in 2011, which had obviously been dropped when going to pay for fuel. I asked in the kiosk if anyone had asked about it and they said no. I took it into the main Tesco and talked to a manager there and he said it was best to take it to the police station nearby, as they couldn't look after it safely for too long. I took it in but no-one claimed it and eventually the Police passed it onto me. It was nice for me but I couldn't just keep it because I know how gutted I would feel if I dropped that money.

I've had a very good camera taken,a very clever card trick(that might appear a bit odd and probably doesnt register with you but at the time I was fuming and devastated.It happened years ago and I can never forget it:dont know why,I just cant) and some very personal jewellery.We live in a very dishonest,unfair and violent society unfortunately.If you cant beat it I'm afraid that for some the only answer is to join it.

100% agree, if you take something which you do not have permission to take you are stealing. If their was nothing to suggest who the money belonged to and it was just in the middle of the pavement with nobody around I would probably just take it. I purchased a load of DJ equipment from a private seller for £1200 paid the guy he gave me a hand with it into the van and just as I was about to drive off said can you wait a sec I think you've overpaid me I just want to check again and I did by £100! Some nice people about.

I'm no angel. I've not said anything when I've been charged the wrong price in shops, in my favour. I have found money In the street and its gone straight in my sky rocket but when it is a significant (possibly life altering)
amount, which could be to stop the gas/electricity being cut off, surely you would give that person a chance to claim it back?
