Hi I’m thinking about replacing my trusty Imoves with some new led ones partly in an effort to reduce the weight of the stuff I carry into a venue and partly for the features the new ones have.
I’ve been looking at the showtec phantom 50 led because I like the idea of the rotating gobo’s and the prism and of course the price is quite reasonable.
But here’s the problem I control the Imoves with an easy controller its simple and easy no programming ect. The showtec ones do not offer that facility it seems to be dmx or sound to light. Does anyone know of a way to control these lights simply i.e. fast, slow, Black out without having to program in chases via a dmx consol

Sorry If this is in the wrong place please move it if necessary.

The Greenwich Instruments Handheld DMX controller is excellent for that, though a software based controller it's probably the easiest one to use for simple control, once programmed you only need to take the small handset with you and use it like a CA-8 (but with more buttons).

I've used it for my LED iMove 50SR's (which incidentally are in the For Sale section and are open to sensible offers).

I have Showtec Phantom 50 led moving heads and I control them with a 192 dmx controller programmed with single position rotating gobos and moving heads sound to light when on music program as I have a sound signal to it.

I know you asked for something with no programming but it is so easy and very effective when STL.

it's not so much the programing as i understand how to do it. It's a lack of imagination on my part as to how position the lights and such, my efforts with par cans were quite boring compaired to the sequences built in to the power bar i now own.

The 50SR's can also be controlled with a CA-8. You can change the inbuilt shows (which basically control where the lights are pointing during S2L), change gobos, colours, strobe, slow sweep and black-out. I still use it when i haven't got custom scenes I want to use. Easily enough control for a First Dance (slow purple stars sweeping around the room for example), then one of the built in shows for later.

Hi Andy C

I currently use two iMove 50SR Moving Heads within my lighting setup. They are not heavy, very bright and so far have been very reliable. I am about to make the move up to some American DJ Vizi Beam 5R's for some of the large venues I do but I have been very happy with the 50SR's.

I have got two videos of them on my youtube channel, the first one isnt great but shows the size, the second one is of them in the real world.

Hope this helps.
