I'm doing a bit of market research for a friends son who is studying IT at uni and is currently struggling to come up with a viable project.

He asked me what I didn't like about Windows Media Player and what I would like it to do but currently doesn't and I told him, as a DJ I don't use Media Player so my feedback was a bit limited, so I thought I'd ask the question here.

I really would be grateful for any comments from you guys, no matter how far fetched they may seem because that would really give him something to seriously consider.

Apologies for posting this here, it's not strictly speaking the most correct area but it is (I think) the most widely read, so if you need to move it could you do that after a couple of days (thanks in advance if you could).

A few things I don't like about media player:

File formats that aren't well supported across other players
Clunky, heavy interface that increases load time to an unbearable level
Poor playlist management
No Cross-Fade options
No in-line audio editing options (i.e. track silence cropping)

I'm not a fan of Windows generally so I'm somewhat bias ;-)

As above plus

It's not Media Monkey. MM does all the things that WMP should be doing
