I run a local DJ group and its our goal for this year to set up something that educates venues and clients on how or what to look at when booking entertainment. Our HDA (Hampshire DJ Alliance) has a website that it gaining popularity with google, which is a channel, but has anyone got any ideas on this?
I have this page on my site which is designed to advise and not sell fear to clients, but i would assume that an explanation that shows that good DJ's can make a venue money and crap ones do the opposite would be a good line to follow. Horror stories do work with clients but I am not sure that entirely a good way to approach the issue. I usually say at meetings "have you seen a DJ before and what was he like" - usually you hear the dave double deck type description ;)

Perhaps face to face or getting a brochure together may work? A page from this site linked to all the members site is also a good option perhaps?

Good luck with it Toby, sounds like a great idea. There's probably also a lot of head scratching because it is something that many DJs are desparate to do, and have probably wanted to do for years, and that is how to make the public more discerning in their choice of DJ/entertainer. Certainly we can emphasise the positives and have good websites and impressionable communications but there my trail ends. Many trades have a single or a couple of respective trade bodies with qualifications etc and that can help raise the profile but whilst the DJ trade is so fragmented I find it hard to see how a truly collective effort can be made. Full marks for the strides you are taking though.

I've got a FAQ on my website that explains in probably a bit too much detail why to book a good DJ (even if it's not me) over a cheap one and what to look out for to make sure you don't end up with a cowboy.
At the end of the day, I'd say the majority of people are looking to spend the least money regardless of quality, it's catching the folk who are prepared to spend a bit more but aren't really sure what they're spending it ons attention that we need to get.

Thats not such a bad idea actually :)
I've got a FAQ on my website
I did this which shows the effort I put in over perhaps a book and turn up on the day sort of DJ which helps,
but I was thinking of something more on a larger scale between many good DJ's perhaps?

I get what you mean but i cant think of anything that would get to a large enough audience or be discerning enough for the people involved
