PAT and PLI

It does make me laugh. I did a wedding at a hotel last night. Some three months ago the hotel wanted a copy of my PLI and pat certificates. Thats fine, makes a change for someone to actually ask for it.
But last night, the Groom did an hours set with his band. Well where do i start.
All extension leads had various amounts of insulation tape on. Their amp blew up(1970,s) style. So i leant them my spare amp. Got that working, then a mic packed up. Turns out one of the previous repairs to the cable had gone again. So i dug through all my cables and find one for them.
As they start playing, i get a visit from a member of Hotel staff asking me to secure all the trailing cables that the band had running to their equipment. So in a nice way, i said "nothing to do with me" speak to the band.
To top it all off, the drummer never secured his drums, and they fell off the platform he was on, and the guitarist got cramp in his hand so they had to finish earley.
They were a fire hazard waiting to happen, where was their PAT and PLI?

Oh yes, i just could not work out why, for the price of some new extension leads, they had spent the time repairing old ones. It looked a totall mess.
Had it not have been for the groom playing in the band, I would have made my thoughts known to the Hotel.

I did a function on Saturday at a hotel in Norwich..

When I met with the B&G and hotel wedding planner, I asked her what she needed from me, like PLI/PAT and she said yes, definately.

So I sent em to the hotel just in case.

On the night, nothing - No one from the hotel even spoke to me other than to ask me to announce last orders and to say hello..........

It seems that PLI/PAt is sometimes just a "scare" tactic used by hotels as in all the years I've had it, I've never been asked to show it........

What really annoys me is the fact that most mobile shows do not hold and certs at all. And to top it off they get away with it. If you try to be honest in this world and do everything the right way, you eventually get stung for having a lead out of date, or something like that. I go around and have a look at the compatition. Sometimes I want to cry. Its an absolute Joke. I have seen a Dj before have 2 sound to light crapy lights on the venue table, a set of hi fi speakers (1 beside each light) and a stack system under the table powering 2 sound lab decks and some unknown mixer playing hard old house all night. He was playing CD's through the stack system (copied cd's I might add). When I asked how much he charged, I almost fainted.....£300.

My kids disco package is better at £195 and yes I have PLI and PAT.

He will run for years with no probs and it gets my back up no end!!
