Hiya's...
I've inherited a lighting desk/console unit from the wife of a deceased friend but she was unable to find the controller that went with it. It has Bulgin type plugs on it and i am struggling to find a controller to match it. Any ideas folks?
Cheers, DC.

Well I've got a couple of high quality Rygers in the shed somewhere, but the word "controller" may cover many things. Mine just run four channels of spotlights in various patterns. Your description sounds more complicated.
Any chance of a little more information or pictures?

Basically i just need the unit that makes the lights flash/pulse. At the moment i can't power them at all. The Bulgin plug is the 7 pin circular type.

Something like this should do the trick

Slight confusion in the camp
You started with Light Console which I think we assumed you meant controller as oppossed to a Light effect with Bulgin connector
This can be a 3 or 4 way (depending on how many Live wires are connected)
A simple controller as above would sort it, you will also need a Lead to go from the controller to the light unless it has one built in,
I have a controller and cables in my garage somewhere, If you fancy a trip to Driffield one weekend bring it over and we will have a play! :)

Sorry about the confusion, let me try clarify...
What i have here is a 3 piece lighting box set built into a console/desk that i stand behind. All the seperate units are connected via 7 pin Bulgin lead/plugs with an extra one that goes out to the lighting controller that makes them flash/pulse with the audio that i play. The piece i have missing is the controller unit. I can get out to Driffield easy enough, if i can remember how to get there, lol.

I would recommend a Pulsar zero 4000, if you can find one.
They are a great controller, absolutely bullet proof. I still have one somewhere, although it is rarely used nowadays.
Be careful if you do find one though, because they are very long in the tooth now, so make sure it has been well looked after, and maintained correctly.

No Worries David,
any bulgin controller will do the job, the Pulsar one mentioned is good but there are loads on ebay quite cheap,
How big is the unit?
I am more than happy to have a look at it for you, before you spend cash on a controller.
I built a couple of these things back when I first started (Some time ago) so have experiance in wiring up 3 & 4 way boxes,
I will check my shed and see what controllers I have left,
Harrogate is about an hour away A59 to York - Round the ring road to the A166 on to Driff ;)
PS I am a good mate of Rob Flake 'Countryman' who you may have come accross in the Scooter Circles'

I use the Ryger Footlight 4 controller, imo one of the best 4 channel controllers I've ever come across. They're worth every penny if you find one second hand. They are also very easy to repair if (when!) the triacs blow

Cheers guys, i really appreciate all the feedback.
The unit was hand built by my friend who is now deceased, it definitely works, i borrowed a controller from a friend a while back when i did a free disco at my kids' school (that was fun, lol) but i just can't get hold of one for myself. I've seen a few on Ebay but i don't know which ones are any good as i've never come across the Bulgin thing until now, and most the people in the shops i've gone to haven't got a clue about them. The actual unit is in seperate parts and is easy to transport, but to be honest i just need to get hold of a working controller that use's those plugs.

It is indeed one of the best. I have two of its big sisters, the 403 and 403 Pro. I've used many a Zero 3000, and its successors, and they're good kit, but pretty ancient.
David, if you end up going to see Dave ( why couldn't one of you be called Algernon? Very confusing. :daft:) let me know, and I'll try to pop over for a chat, always good to meet new folk.

Cheers guys, all great feedback.
The lighting/desk unit itself is definitely in working order, i borrowed a controller from a friend last summer when i did a free disco at my kids' school (that was fun, lol) and it was all flashing and pulsing quite happily, i just can't get hold of one for myself. I've seen the ones on Ebay but i don't know which ones are suitable as i've never come across these Bulgin plugs before this. Maybe an adapter plug/cable is the way to go so i can look at different controllers?
To avoid Dave/David confusion just call me DC, it's easier, lol. We'll have to arrange a visit at some point then, would be cool to have a chat with ya's.
