Mounting lights on top of speakers?

Anyone done this?

I'm rejigging my rig and a thought crossed my mind about sticking some Jelly domes on top of the speakers facing out into the crowd (i.e. you would see the whole dome, not just the profile)

I know guys do this on stands and T bars with G clamps and whatnot but I'm trying to work out how I could do it easilly with a speaker.

I'm looking into Alto TS115a's and the top of them apparently looks like this:

I haven't visualised how you intend to do this, but Angela's suggestion is the simple, reliable way. If I understand correctly ( and I've got no idea how a jelly dome attaches ) I see two threaded flying points on the cab, so nip down to your local metal worker, give him the measurements, and a simple piece of fllat bar and two thumbscrews should have the desired effect.


PS. In my own very humble opinion, the whole dea has little to recomend it, but take no notice of a jaundiced, grumpy old git. :D

+1 for the Atlas. IMO They're a bit ugly & utilitarian, but no worse than any uncovered tripod or truss. I use a pair regularly.

I could be wrong but if it's like the Starball, I think the jellydome comes with a flat piece anyway, with a central bolt-hole, so no need for additional metalwork
You may just need a simple right-angled bracket therefore to mount the jellydome facing forward from the Atlas.

Another possibility I've seen which looked nice was mounting the starball/jellydome facing the crowd on the vertical upright just under the speaker. Covered a wider angle of the ceiling that way too, plus bodies, plus floor directly infront.

That's another idea I've been toying with but I still want something on top of the speakers so the Atlas looks like the way to go.

To attach a Jellydome to an ATLAS (facing out like a par as opposed to down like a ceiling mounted effect), the easiest way is to get a G clamp like this http://www.ultimax1.com/home.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=81&category_id=9

Remove the thumbscrew & bolt the Jellydome to the clamp via this hole & use the wingnut & bolt to attach the clamp via the hole in the ATLAS (a longer bolt may be required). We've done this on a number of occasions when space has been tight.

Picking up some Jelly domes next week and a few more bits and bobs too. Realy excited to see how this looks.

If you can find a suitable bracket. That type of clamp is available at virtually every DJ store. Your way would also mean removing the bracket if you want to hang anything else on the ATLAS. We leave the clamp on our Jellydomes, meaning they can also be hung from overheads without changing anything.
