Hi all,
I'm after some advice, I've decided to buy 2 Martin wizards but in trying to figure out how I can mount them on lighting stands without using the t-bar? I've had a good search but can't seem to find anything and the only solution I've come up with is to use a t-bar but cut it down so you don't see the bars sticking out either edge.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
If you want to mount both on the same tripod, I can't see any alternative but to use a short T bar. If I was doing it I would use an ultimax type aluimnium casting to fit the tripod and an 18" or so piece of angle iron and bolt the lights directly on it, instead of cutting down a tubular section T bar (it would eliminate the need for 2 additional hanging brackets)

Should have said - I only want one wizard in each stand, like moving heads mounted upright.

The Wizards I use are always floor-mounted due to their weight but there are people on here who've put up photos of them mounted just as you've described. Have a look in the Gallery section to find them then maybe contact that person direct. That way you're not just hoping they'll see your thread. And then you can post up the results for everyone else! :)

It's been done. Darren ( Solitaire) for a start, and Andy ( Deltic ) for another.
I have just searched myself, and can't find piccies or anything. I know they're there somewhere.
From memory, all that's needed is an Ultimax top clamp, to which you bolt the fixture backplate, but don't take that as gospel. My memory is notably suspect at times.

I put my efx 500`s on single poles using these http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/46064-clamp-casting-35mm-top-casting-umcast35top-ultimax.html
Sp pretty sure you could do the same for Wizards

Thanks I've looked too, can see some images but nothing up close to see how it's done.

I've actually got 2 of these but don't think they'll fit on my lighting stands, think my poles are fatter than 35mm.
Ill give it a go though thanks

If they're Ultimax, it's unlikely. I'm pretty sure their uprights are 32mm standard . Winch pods are thicker, I believe. 35mm is standard for speaker stands.

The ultimax ones I've got are off the top of the deck stand, are they 35mm? They look smaller.

Somewhere on here is a piccy of my then ultimax deckstand with a speaker atop each pole. I know I had to make up a sleeve to make them fit, cos speakers as I said are 35mm. My Ultimax were 32mm uprights, Giraffe were something like 25mm, certainly not 32mm. Whether there are Ultimax stands with poles thinner than 32mm, I don't know.

That makes sense, my ultimax must be 32mm, ill order some 35mm ones and try them.

Hang on! Unless you intend to mount the wizards on speaker stands, I'd have expected you to need 32mm ones.:confused:

I normally detest scrims, but this is the first time I've seen them used where they actually enhance the look of the setup. :beer1:

Option 1: Take a lighting stand tripod. Take the plastic cap off top the upright tube, fasten a good quality jubilee clip around around the upright tube (this strengthens it and stops it going out of shape). Fasten a G clamp to your light and then hang it over the upright tube - so the bit you would normally use as a hook hangs inside the tube. Drill a small hole through the tube and clamp and then pop a thin nut and bolt through the lot to secure the clamp to the pole. Drill another small hole further down to attach a safety cable.
Option 2: get a length of tube that will slide over the upright of whatever you are using as a stand. Cut a length of the tube and bolt it to your light tube. Paint it all black. Slide the cut tube over your stand upright tube.
Both options work well and are very quick to put up / take down after a gig.

Ha ha sorry this is all getting a bit complicated - let me start again:
I plan to put 2 wizards on 2 tripods (make not known).
I have got a ultimax deck stand but I don't use it very often.
So am I right in saying to mount them on the tripods chances are ill need 35mm ones?

I use wind up stands and use a 35mm as the diameter is 35mm

The company that supply the scrims were using the image for advertising, looks badly photoshopped though.
Re: the mounting. If the fitting is anything like an EFX500 you can use a 24528 or possibly a 24521 from K&M

http://www.distributedsoundandvideoltd.co.uk/store/k-and-m-24528-reducer-flange-with-m10-threaded-socket-black.html
I have the 24528 as you can use an M10 and screw it into it from the top.

Aha! I fear I may have led us astray somewhat. I asumed we were sticking them on Ultimax uprights. My mistake, sorry. :o If we're talking tripods, get the tape measure out first, cos as I said: Lighting stands 32mm, Speaker stands 35mm. Measure before ordering any brackets.

The K&M piece above fits either with no problems.
