How to get more bookings...

What's the best way to generate more bookings. Should I spend more on advertising, if so where. I do occasionally place an ad in the local paper which does pay for itself.
I always leave business cards with all the venues I play at. I have a website, but I would like to be getting more work.

What else can I do to get more work.

How long's a piece of string? Different things work for different people & what works in one area may not in others.

Others will tell you what they do, it's a case of trying everything & seeing what works for you.

Make up some flyers, say A5 size, drive around dropping them off and introducing yourself with a portfolio of photos to pubs, hotels, sports club etc.. Let them see what they are getting.

I second that. In my 20+years on the road I never once advertised in any way. And I always had enough work to keep me happy. After all not everybody wants to work 52 weekends of the year.

One way you could try would be a leafleting campaign if you have the time. You know the sort of thing I mean. How many times have you been in a car park and noticed flyers underneath one of the wipers. Obviously there must be some sort of success rate with them or people wuldn't keep doing them.

Not everybody reads these flyers but then again not everybody who buys a paper would look at the ads. You could also enquire from the post office about having flyers delivered door to door. although I think the minimum number of flyers they will deliver is quite high so it might not be that cheap.

And of course don't forget about business cards. I can't recall the number of times i've been caught out not having pen & paper to give someone my contact details.

Not 100% sure but isn't sticking leaflets under windscreens illegal? Or is down to local restrictions?

drop your price to £50 oooooohh im a synic i have had a bit of success with wedding fairs but be choosy which you do. also ive had a couple of venues like what i do and pass me a fair bit of work.
