Recently been using DMX on my pair of Inno Rolls, and I can't seem to slow them down enough. It's either a fairly medium pace or static, even when using the DMX control. Anyone out there experienced the same issue? I'm thinking it might be an actual mechanical issue (i.e. the stepper motors can't rotate really slowly)
Great lights but would love finer control.....anyone's help would be gratefully received

Ian, I think you'll find that this is a generally accepted issue. There has been quite a few comments to that effect on here and elsewhere i.e. that they are not suitable for slow panning e.g. start of evening, etc. I returned mine for that exact reason.

Oh bum! I'll stick em in the cupboard for occasional use then.

If you want to use them for slow scanning, you can make scenes in mydmx, and just run those at whatever speed you choose. Or maybe just select one of the built in shows on the inno rolls, and adjust the mic sensitivity, so it doesn't hear the music.

Also have a look on the mydmx forum and make sure you are using the latest mapper for the inno scan.

Hope that makes sense.

That was my whole point really......even in 'deaf' mode or using DMX, the rollers still move too fast at their slowest setting. I think it's to do with the actual mechanics of the barrel motor, i.e. not being able to rotate very slowly.

I will look for the latest mapper though, good point

Could you just set some scenes in mydmx, and adjust the fade time between scenes, to make the transistions slower.

I don't know any of this for certain, as I will be using my inno rolls, via dmx, for the first time this weekend.

The roll on the Inno Roll is too fast for a first dance really. It's kind of mid speed even when slowed right down with DMX. Disappointing as it could have been so much better. The only thing you can do is tilt the barrels slowly giving some movement and leave the barrel not rotating.

I've switched to the Chauvet 300 Barrel which is a more expensive unit but you can do a slow roll on DMX, plus the beam angle is wider and a 3 facet prism too giving good coverage. There is a nice 'rose' gobo built in too which is near perfect for first dance.

This gives you an idea of them in action as a picture

I will shoot some more video this weekend as I am just doing light for a wedding so have more opportunity to get video and pictures.

Haven't had a chance to dig out the inno rolls, but I have just plugged in the Inno scans, via mydmx2.0.

I found that when using the scene builder window, and effects position, you can get it to do circles etc. If you adjust the duration up a bit higher. the the scanners move slower. Not sure if this will help with the inno rolls though.

If I get a chance to have a play a bit later, I will report back.

p.s I am new to mydmx and the inno scans, and inno rolls

Hi Guys

After buying 4 of these in november last year i think i am now regretting the purchase!!! For a light of the price these sell for the initial expectation is that they will cover all challenges!!

Oh well, possibly stick with them or if anyone wants some very nice inno rolls give me a shout lol

the movements on the Chauvet 300's look very nice. i may look to have a demo of these in the near future.

I emailed ADJ and the response from them was pretty poor where they pretty much just recommended visiting a local ADJ dealer and looking at getting a DMX controller.

thanks

Iain
