Truss Base Plates

Any recommendations on where I can buy truss base plates? The ones I currently use are a whopping 36kg each. Which is fine for my heavy moving heads at high heights, but overkill when using the lighter movers at low heights. So I'm looking for something smaller and lighter, with a smaller footprint.

Thanks for the reply. I spotted those earlier during my search online. I think the 24" ones are closest to what I need, but in all honesty a little too heavy for my requirements. And the 16" is too small. It's a pity they don't make a size in between as it'd be ideal.

Have a chat with RSD. I bought my towers are part of a kit and it included the base plates which are aluminium. I'm not sure of the weight but they are definitely not 21kg as I can carry 2 of them if required. They are 24 inch so normally I do one at a time as they are a bit bulky.

If you're not too worried about them being the same colour and a perfect finish I'd advise contacting a metal fabricator.

I've just had 2 custom made stainless steel pillars made and it's cost me around £350 for the pair.
Alternatively you can get aluminium ones made for around £500 with powder coating.

I'd imagine a base plate would be £60-70 with powder coating.

I know of a few guys that have just bought 4 spigots and screwed them onto a sheet of 10mm ply... Painted the wood, sorted!

Haha, fair enough ... would be interesting to see how good that looks / how stable it is in comparison. 10mm sounds quite thick to me - potential trip hazard?

Thanks for that. I gave them a call. At first they said they only sell them as part of the totem package they sell, and not separately. They came back to with a price though (over £300 for the pair). I can get a pair of the heavier steel version at a couple of hundred for the pair.

I'm also not very good at DIY, so making a pair is out of the question.

May not be suitable, but I have used a couple of parasol bases, not the concrete ones but flat metal, used them for a couple of I move 5's and were stable enough.

A further development on this... I bought 2 600 x 600mm sheet steel plates 3 mm thick, onto that I welded on long bolts, onto which I put the spigots. It is not heavy, but having the larger footprint it is impossible to tip the truss over. Also at 3mm thick it is in no way a trip hazard.

I got my baseplates from my brother who works at http://www.dcdevs.co.uk/ Ashwelthorpe, Norfolk, and when I asked if they could supply to other DJ's he said tell them to contact us and tell us what they want as we ship with no problems.

Mine are 4mm aluminium and deburred at edges, nice finish. As I have drills and taps I fitted these to the smaller baseplates with spigots using countersink 6mm from underneath the plates plus a lock nut.

My brother is Eric Neave, workshop foreman, so you could ask to speak with him and say I mentioned this on here.
