View Full Version : LEDs losing brilliance

Has anyone else had any problems with white LED based effects losing brilliance over a short space of time.

I've now had this twice, both incidentally with American DJ lights, but over a 2 year period.

Its only been noticeable because both times its happened to one of a pair of lights working together. On a single, stand alone unit, you would have nothing to make a comparison.

The first time was for a pair of X-Scans which, after about three months of to-ing and fro-ing, I then spoke to the ADJ rep at BPM who told me that they had identified a small batch of faulty LEDs and some had escaped onto the market in various products. I returned the lights to ADJ (via my retailer) but, as so much time had passed and they would have taken a while to get them fixed / replaced, the retailer and I did a deal to have them replaced with another manufacturer's product which sorted me out.

Now, last night, I used my new ADJ LED X-move 25R's for the 4th time only and I thought my eyes were playing tricks. I switched them off and on again and swopped the power and control cables around, ran them DMX, master & slave and stand alone, and I'm sure that one is now dimmer than the other. I asked a couple of the venue staff to comment and they said the same.

I've obviously not had chance to speak to my retailer yet, but I can't see that it is the same batch of faulty LEDs now 2 years on. If it is, ADJ have a quality control issue.

I did take a couple of photos but they are not brilliant as its difficult to capture the moving images, but I'll try and post them later (or take some more).

If anyone has had a similar experience, I'd like to know.

I have just had the exact same problem with some ADJ x-move led plus lights.

I bought them at the same time as some x-scans, which are working fine. The x-moves have about 100 hours use on the lamps, so nowhere near the 50,000 they are meant to be good for.
But they are just very dim, almost a grey light, not white at all.

I have tracked down the led's from RS and replaced them, now they are super bright again.

The x-moves had only done half the hours of the x-scans, so I don't know why they should have gone like it.

Returned to retailer under warranty. Now on its way to ADJ in the Netherlands for tem to fix (assuming the coronation party has finished)!!

I've had this with some Thomann budget Scanners, one light went dimmer than the other after only about 10-15hrs of use. Returned to Thomann and repaired under warranty, but still very annoying.

I figured it was just because I'd bought budget and the better kit wouldn't do this...

A brand new replacement arrived last night. Duly tested against the other and found to be of equal brilliance.

Will be giving it a good thrashing when possible to see if it lasts longer that the four gigs of the last one.
