Just wondering what sort of price everybody is paying for equipment insurance - if you have it obviously and who your insured with?

I'm insured through E&L. I think my policy just creeps over the 3-figure mark annually but this includes PLI. It's a Lunar Monthly rolling policy and I think the direct debits are around £8 per lunar month. I'm not sure if this covers my music library - this is something that I need to look in to. It does also cover me for personal injury, though.

Cheers, not a bad price - shame the PLI is quite low compared to AMPDJ etc not sure if any venue's require a certain level of PLI? Not really seen a 1million PLI policy they all seem to be 5 or 10

I'm pretty sure I'd upgraded my policy to £5m PLI. Give me a minute....

Oops! Just checked my policy and it is for £5m PLI but it's through DJGuard. The annual premium is actually £154 which includes £3,000 equipment cover. I remember shopping around when my E&L policy was due to end but I thought I'd stuck with them. Oh, well! Shows how much notice I take of things! :daft:

Has anyone actually managed to claim against equipment insurance. In the past when I looked at it the exclusions were so large that I could only see a few cases when I could make a claim. Most do not cover equipment at an event unless you are standing next to it and have limited cover in the van or home unless certain locks / alarms are fitted. The main claim that I could see that would be valid would be fire.

I read through both DJGuard and E&L policies and decided neither covered what I considered my main risk areas. One clause stated you couldn't leave your vehicle unattended! So someone has to sit and watch the gear get nicked and then you could claim?

There were that many clauses and exclusions, like addoaddo, I couldn't actually see a situation where they would pay out on a claim.

I was with the musicians union who used to offer free insurance when you take out there membership up to a certain amount. Given the fact I had 1 rig at the time it was good for me. I went to make a claim after 4 years paying my membership and they said I did not register for the free insurance, therefore I was not insured. In all fairness, it was simply a get out clause for them. So I simply walked and I would never speak a good word of them again!! I suppose the bottom line is, these insurance companies are working against djs all the time as there are so many dodgy :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored:ers who make hoax claims!! Personally, I have never had any other instance where I have had to make a claim, but I think given the instance where a claim needs to be made, if everyone was honest, I think the insurance co agonies would make the process a lot easier and not cover themselves with so much small print! It's almost a little bit of a battle. Them vs us!! Same with car insurance, however they are worse as they know you have to have it!
