new product oppinion needed

the unit is £449 however does not contain any storage space so an external hdd or flash drive will also be needed.

In my opinion, you would be far better advised to wait for the Denon, and possibly Numark units. Same idea, but likely to be more robust and reliable, as they have proven with their other products over the years.

Well it has an advantage over the Denon aswell, the only way you can read CDs on that is to connect a DN-D4000 or 4500 CD drive unit to it. However, it does have a built in hard drive, unlike the other units. The Denon is due in Jan/Feb 2007.

You will be getting some feedback shortly as it should be available for a trial at Disco shops any day----- mine says probably Friday.

Dragonfly is in a similar situation. ( no news dragonfly?)

There was some negative feedback on here through another forum about the music skipping recently.

As regards being reliable and robust obviously no one knows how that will go---totally new product--the only thing I can say is that if it is absolutely useless you should be able to get your money back from the dealer under the Consumer protection laws---as far as I know.

Another reason not to buy from America?

For those of us looking at going to digital music its all a bit of a gamble--whatever you use I guess you will always need back up anyway.

£450? not the end of world if it doesnt last more than a few years I guess.

By that time the other products will have been "bench tested" as well.

As we have a coulple of members who represent Cortex, it would be nice to see any views of those with first hand (hands on) experience, as I'm sure they'd be interested in any comments as much ( if not more so ) as the rest of us.

As the guy on the stand a PLASA wouldn't let anyone play with it I only know what I was shown, I would love the opportunity to test drive one (so to speak) to see for myself.

I think this type of player has the potential to be a viable alternative to PC DJing.

I had quite a long conversation with the MD of GCI technologies the other day and he has sent me a nice powerpoint presentation which I will send to Richie to host, so you can all have a looky at the Cortex.

I know that there are only selected retailers that are selling the Cortex and that they have had two deliveries of the product into the country and sold out straight away.

It was mentioned that I could borrow one for review purposes when they have more stock.

hi was demod the cortex last week and had an hour or so on it as well. seems very good once u got used to the menu system, in fact couldnt really fault it - altho there cound be an issue if ya forget to dismount the mem sticks/harddrives when shutting down or if a power failure.

would make an excellent backup device if ya fitte dit into your existing racks - just switch on and your away.

is it worth the money - undoubtedly yes - but not for me as i dont want to go down that route - but as a spare when hopefully there prices have halved in a year or so could be worth considering
