I can only assume the lack of media reports is down to the tornado coverage & the fact that his death had previously been reported & discovered to be a hoax (he's been ill with cancer for years), so people are verifying it before reporting.

Because any way you look at it he made a vastly more significant contribution to popular music than Whitney bloody Houston

Oops! I quoted this in the Trevor Bolder thread. I plead insanity and severe tiredness! My tale of woe includes two days of doctors, hospitals, strange rashes that the GP and doctors at hospital hadn't seen before and kids with ear infections!!! :eek:

I think I know what you mean by that, in that he was a bona fide musician, as opposed to 'just' a singer. And perhaps, you might argue that there is more depth to the music of The Doors.

The media are going to make more of a story out of something depending on how well known the subject is, and everyone knows who Whitney Houston is. There are loads of youngsters who have never even heard of The Doors, let alone the individual band members. No point getting annoyed about it; it's only pop music after all :shrug:

You forgot the fact that he wrote his own music
The doors albums are still selling in their thousands despite them ceasing to exist 40 odd years ago. I doubt the same will be said of WH
