ultimax overhead trusslite

tried calling ultimax company but not working on a saturday
does anyone know if its ok to drill holes in the ultimax overhead double bar trusslite so i can fit lights on as i do not have any hooks or anything like that.
just received it through post and thinking of using it tonight but i dont know if drilling holes will weaken it and reduce the payload of 80kg

Probably, but I would by some G-clamps. They make set up and pack down so much quicker as well, as you just hook them on and tighten them up rather than having to screw everything on.

Get hooks. The single ones have holes to allow the fastening of the upright caps, and I've drilled holes to cope with differing widths. If you've got the Trusslite, you'll be using the ones with a slot rather than a bolt, so no need to have holes. And you'll fingd that wherever you drill it, they'll be wrong at some time in the future. just looked at the clamps and i can see how quicker it will be rather than 13 mm bolts
and i can vouch for holes always sometime being in the wrong place

Drilling holes in anything will weaken it. I have an Ultimax stand and use varying sizes of hanging hooks as required.

thanks for your replys another question i have is what size g clamps do i buy
ive looked at the different sizes available and was thinking of getting the simple g clamps with 110mm drop, now it just so happens that my ultimax trusslite has a gap of 110 mm between the bars
does this mean that the clamp will go over both bars to give added security and strength or will the hanging bolt head get in the way or should i go for the ones with 165mm drop?
and finally are you supposed to hang the lights over one bar or both?
obviously i know you can buy single overhead bars and use these clamps but if you have two wouldnt it be safer and stronger to hang off two bars.

And some people suggested this in post #3. Do try to keep up lads. :p:D:D


You can use short clamps and hang them off the lower bar only, but for anything heavier than a small LED fixture, or laser, the 165 length stops the fixture trying to twist the clamp round the bar, and means you don't have to tighten it up like a maniac to stabilise it.
