View Full Version : That old distortion problem!

I can't believe I am writing this again but here goes!

I run virtual DJ via an Acer Laptop through my MC6000 mixer. I have been having a slight distortion problem for the past year or so! It is one of those very annoying intermitent problems. It only happens every 6th or 7th time I am out. And is really only on the up to date tracks I play (and it is not the way they have been downloaded as they sound fine if I bypass VDJ) I am pretty sure it is a latency problem because I seem to be able to cure the problem (after a few tries!) by changing the latency.
I have run everything fom 357 right up to 900! to try and cure it!
I recently updated virtual dj, so it is running as up to date as it can.
I have not updated my mc6000 for a while, and I know most people would say that should be the next move, and I will do it!

My question is: a lot of people I have been talking to (including my DJ pal RKDJ!) have said "you wouldn't get that with a mac". Is this really the case, and to be honest if I knew 100% that it would solve the probem (because it is starting to become a pain in the!) I would think about purchasing a mac. (although it could be an expensive mistake to make)

Thanks in advance

Have a look on the denondj forum.
There is loads of advice there.

Are you using the denon asio driver in the virtual dj setup?

You might find that it is other program that you have running that are draining your cpu power, so close any programs you don't need when you are dj'ing.

I run VDJ through ha 1GHz laptop with no problems so it shouldn't be a speed problem unless you are running other programs as well.

I run VDJ and I notice that sometimes the gain goes up by its self, I assume its something I press on the keyboard when I search for a song, if the gain gets to high its distorts a lot, turn the gain back to 50% and its fine, I just keep an eye on it.

Mine's set on auto + remember. I think that means it tries to level each track at 0db. On any other programmes, I've found that having the software gain higher than strictly necessary ruins the sound quality.

As posted above. You can set the gain in the settings on VDJ. I usually have mine set to auto, it means you don't have to keep adjusting the trim on you mixer, and you know each song is going to have the correct gain setting.

Also in VDJ have a look in the mappers section, and if you are not using keyboard shortcuts, just disable them. I learnt this the hare way when I accidentally started an 8 beat loop and couldn't get out of it. Luckily no-one noticed except me.
