buzzing speaker

hey, I've got a bit of a problem, it's minor but annoying.. lets see how I can explain..

When I have no music on if I fade up channel two there is as you would expect no sound, as know music is playing. When I fade up channel one, one of the speakers buzzes. Any ideas whats causing this? do I need to be worrying? Thanks!

Yes I had my HP Psu cause this on my HP DV6000 laptop. Luckily I had a spare PSU with me, as the battery was very poor, but enough to prove it was the VMS 4 mixer, luckily it wasn't!

I had this problem a while ago and it was resolved with the purchase of a ground loop isolator. They're well worth the few quid they cost and can eliminate electrical hum.

Much better going for a replacement power supply of the double insulated switch mode variety,if that is your problem,the easiest way to check is to run your laptop on battery and see if the problem disappears.

If you still have the buzzing when you run on battery then it isn't the power supply and you will need to look elsewhere for the problem,probably going back to basics and trying one lead at a time.

Unless I've missed something, the OP never specified a laptop as playout. Even if it is, why buzz on one fader and not the other? ( assuming that we've got one playout with two channels )

If I've understood correctly, my question is, does the hum move channels if the cables are swapped? If it stays on the same channel, then a problem in the mixer seems a possibility.

Must admit not too much to go on in the original post and could well be a lead or mixer fault

Hey, no I don't use a laptop, I'l try swapping the leads over and see if that works, thanks!

well.. I set it all up today and its' now fine. weird!. But good!

Still tricky to diagnose with out knowing your set up or equipment but should you be using active speakers they don't have an earth lift button do they that you might have switched. Mind you I think you'd know about it as the buzzing would be really loud. Again a stab in the dark as we don't know your kit.
To be honest sounds more like a dodgy cable or connection. But I'd be more worried if its an intermittent problem.

Sounds like it could be a dry solder joint or a dodgy cable. Test all your cables first.
