Shockwave.. do you sell rack panels with holes that fit speakon connectors?? Haven't been able to find anything on your website. I want to order the whole lot i need at once from one supplier, and its usually you i use!

I'll be more specific, what i'm after is a panel with cutouts for at least two XLR sockets, if possible 4. And also at least 2 for speakons. Can be 1U or 2U.

Hi again Dan.

We dont stock any specifically for speakon sockets. We only stock blanking plates for the following:

XLR, Socapex, Jack Sockets, IEC, Mains, BNC

We do, however, have the full blanking plates which are easy to fit speakon sockets to.

Thanks for your response. Is there any chance that you would be able to start stocking these? I mean, how many DJs still use Jack sockets for speakers? I would imagine there is sufficient demand for blanking plates with speakon sockets - infact, terallec already stock them.

I've already wasted time, money and drill heads trying to drill out my own patch panels before.. so i don't think i'll be doing that :D

the panel cutout for XLR, 4-way Speakon and powercon is interchangable

maybe you could answer this.can dmx xlr leads be used as mixer type xlr leads. Is the cable different? or can dmx data cables be interchanged wth standard dmx.

I do on my second small rig---absolutely perfect, never had a problem in xxxx years use.

Whats the big deal with speakons---my new ones started to fail because the screws worked loose--jack plugs dont have screws to work loose!!!

Officially DMX is carried on 5 pin connectors, which carry the data (RS485) on pins 2 & 3, screen (and common mode reference) on 1. There is a second data link on pins 4 & 5 the format of which has never been well defined and it is seldom used in practice. This means that at an electronics level, the signal is sent through 5-core cable (but only 3 are ever used) consisting of 0v, +ve and -ve signal wires. Cable for DMX-512 installations should be 110 ohm impedance shielded twisted pair cable. A normal microphone cable (shielded twisted pair) works OK for short runs, but can cause problems in long runs (so using it is not recommended).

I suppose TRS Jacks are OK as speaker connectors on very small systems, but they are not particularly rugged, they don't lock, can be easily pulled out, and they aren't designed for serious output levels.

OK, standard speakons can work loose, but also the locking ring tends to become ineffective after extensive use, however the STX range of speakons are well worth looking at, lovely connectors - will last a lifetime
