This may seem an odd question, but I have been having a bit of trouble with one of my XLR cables connecting my mixer to my active speakers.

On Saturday the speaker randomly cut out, and I found on a slight movement of the cable it seemed to be OK.

I am thinking that this may be to do with how I store the lead and wind it up between gigs.

I tend the wrap it around my arm, from my hand to elbow as I was under the impression that keeping it neatly wound like this would limit any twisting and kinking of the cable.

My question is - What is the best way to store long lengths of cable to keep them in optimum condition whilst storing them neatly without having to detangle at each gig?

The best way that I know of is doing it is like making a small round loop approx 8 inches and whilst holding the loop in your left hand grab the cable and twist your hand 180 degrees to make another loop... then repeat.
Takes a bit of practice and I fasten them with some double sided velcro strapping, can be done quite fast once you get used to it.

Basically just making a round loop rather than a shaped one that you would with the elbow hand thing.

If you wrap it around your arm like you have been doing, you're actually putting tension on the cable and risk fracturing the insides, like you may have done!
