What is the most you have had to pay for a pint of coke?
I was at Grand Central Station Hotel in Glasgow a few months ago and was charged £5.50 draught (but it would have been over £8 if I wanted it from bottles).... I nearly fell over when they told me the price. Most of the drink was ice too!! Sad thing was that the bar staff weren't on £20 an hour... just min-wage!

Its getting ridiculous and people are still paying that money!
Post mix and soda water (and associated running/upkeep or equipment) really does not cost much does it?

I ordered a soda and lime the other day in a restaurant and it was about £4! water and cordial!!

My local venue wonder why people bring their own drinks in as they simply can afford the costs.
People are not stupid they know that it costs about a £1 a litre for proper bottled Coke in Tesco so why should venues have the right to rip people off.

More importantly to us though english people tend to loose their inhibitions after a few drinks, and tend to
dance more so although it keeps people from becoming too drunk, people tend not to buy many drinks.

That's a ridiculous amount to pay for a glass of coke!

I take my own soft drinks. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a soft drink whilst working.

Whenever I'm out DJing it's a pint of iced water for me. Even the high end venues don't charge you for that

I always buy the barman some chocolate I pick up on the way at my main venue.
That way he gives me what ever I want through out the night and it only costs 60p ;)

Insane prices!
Pretty good idea for venues really - good value venue hire and through the roof drinks prices!

Many I bet would overlook the drink prices if they found a nice venue for their wedding which they could afford.

I paid 84p for a pint of blackcurrant cordial and water (not soda) on Saturday. Extortionate!! :zip:

I only ever drink water without ice at gigs or if I need a kick up the arse I'll take my own energy drinks.

FWIW I think you've been :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored:ed there because I hang out in Champagne Central now and again and whilst it's expensive, you're not even paying a fiver for a pint of lager and I can't think of any non champagne cocktails they do that are that expensive... I was gigging there on Saturday night and as I was getting a water someone ordered 3 halfs with glass bottles of Coke and it only came to 11 something or other...

£5.50 for a pint of coke?! That's surely a mistake??

The thing about it is you don't know the price until it's been poured for you, and at that point, most people are just going to stump up for it aren't they.

As well as that, we are even less likely to complain, for fear of leaving a negative image.

You could always have a look at the price list - they used to have to display them by law. Not sure now though.

It's only happened a few times (once whilst DJing) but I definitely don't mind telling someone to wind their neck in if they're really taking it. Obviously places like this are going to upcharge on drinks and I don't mind 99% of the time as it's just the way of the world but £4 for a draft Coke or £8 for a pint of Stella as one snidey club in Newcastle once tried to charge me? Get yourself son.

A ridiculously over priced one?

I can't even remember it's name. It was a bit out of the way up by the top end of the Brigg Market I think. One of those really pretentious names to make it sound like it's in somewhere exotic: Saphhire or Equinox or some cack like that.

I can't think which one you mean mate, but I've never heard of any club in Newcastle charging that kind money. Probably a member of staff trying it on mate. Especially if you rocked up the bar slightly inebriated shall we say;);)

Most I remember paying was £4.50 for a half of coke. My reply was it was just 1 wasn't it? Normal price around here is around £1.50 - £2.50.

Strange thing is that a supermarket can be hit with a big fine if they don't have a price on a product, and drinks prices in a pub are extremely static in comparison.

I believe you have to also provide alcoholic content as well as the measure in ml, which is part of the measures act.
It only has to be the main spirits and drinks with alcoholic content so coke would not come into it.
Hotels may come under a different jurisdiction to bars and clubs?

Scumbags. Same as those awful folk who charge £2.50 for a mug of :Censored: tea.

I know how much tea costs. I make it all the time!

I was ordering a coffee today at a meeting at the clients (3 of them) walked in. I said did you want anything.
They ordered 2 vodka and cokes and a beer (great I thought won't be too bad).

They must have ordered doubles as the bill was £25!!! They had better book as thats taking the :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored:.
Its a well paying booking so working collateral. ;)

Whilst it is extortionate to charge that much I think a lot of places do it to keep the "lower class" out in some pubs and clubs.

It is stupid how much it costs though. You can get diet coke in aldi for 15p a 2l bottle which tastes good to me. Shows how much we're being ripped off even in the supermarket.

I will always ask for water when working... Take it back to my booth then add some squash from those super concentrated tiny bottles :)

There was a time when venues either gave you water based drinks ( squashes) for free, or at really low rates. I've been charged anything from 30p to last night's £2.

Could be worse, I suppose. John's Coke can require a second mortgage in some venues. There's one where he gets a short pint ( two small bottles, there's no machine ) for an extortionate sum. Grrr

My residency would be happy to relieve me of £3.80 for a pint of carbonated soft drink with ice. Alas, most of the bar staff are only too glad to bring me a freebie if they think I might be thirsty. They're a good bunch, those guys. I'm gonna miss them one day.,

Ditto (but substitute orange or blackcurrant squash). Or get a 6 pint jug from the stock room, fill it up out of the tap and grab some ice from the ice making machine. Return to base.

There was an upmarket golf club about 20 miles from me where I did 3 wedding within a year.

The events manager would come up every hour and ask if me or my roadie wanted a drink and they were always on the house.

Over the course of the 3 weddings must have been asked about 15 times. Think I accepted 2 diet cokes on about 6 occasions!

Have to say that was the exception and ceased by the new management when they were taken over.

Part of my T&C for my last residency was free soft drinks, Most of the time I helped myself :p
