Fatal mistake.

I did an Army disco.
After I had played a few tracks including "In the Army now" a woman came up and asked for a Lily Allen track which I didn't have.
I said sorry but I don't have it, I carry as many CD's as I can squeeze in the car and so cant carry every track ever recorded.
After she swore at me a bit she then stood in the middle of the dance floor and shouted "We want Lily Allen" all night at the start of every song.

I would say 90% of my gigs usually go well with just the occasional bad gig usually for some silly reason like above.

I have had crowds that refuse to dance even after numerous requests by me for requests.
I tried every genre of music and they still wouldn't get up.
I get complaints be cause I talk too much then at the next gig I get told I am not coming up with enough craic !
A DJ's life can be hard work, I guess all you can do is play it by ear.

I did a wedding the other week and a 'lady' was dancing right in front of me all night. She was making faces and turning her nose up at every song yet she was still dancing.
As the night went on she started shouting out "Where's The Beatles, play The Beatles". One of my biggest bugs is when someone shouts at me. I choose to ignore people that do that. After much shouting she finally decided to use her legs to walk round to see me and ask me if I could play The Beatles because I had been "Ignoring me all night" (her words). It was a really good night and the majority of the guests were very nice...she was one of those 'You always get one' type people so I said to her "Apologies if you thought I was ignoring you, I thought you were shouting at me".

You just have to get on with it I guess. It's part and parcel of doing the job. There will always be one of those wherever you go. You just do what you do and try to give as many people a good time as you can.

Sorry to hear about your gig mate. I like most of the DJ's on here once used CD's (But it was becoming a nightmare in the end). Hence my switch to digital playout. The benefits are amazing and a hell of a lot easier to carry your entire collection and a good chance you'll have most requests or just download them on the fly with a good internet connection;)
