I wonder if anyone could help me, I went to put FREE one line ad in the yellow pages this year and have just had a phonecall asking if i want to upgrade, to be fair the one line ads are pretty rubbish! does anyone have any experience with advertisig in the yellow pages and does it increase bookings?

I dont really want to fork out the money if its not worth it.

Hope some one can help.
Cheers

I've had about 10 bookings from my free one line ad. Lots of people avoid the big flashy adverts and just go for someone who is the nearest to them. All of my bookings from it have been for my two local towns.

May upgrade my advert a bit this year, as its already given a good return.

I've had some dealings with YELLOW PAGES and YELL and to be honest, it can be quite costy & difficult to warrant that amount of cost.

From experience you can haggle them down on the price - and as long as you have a budget in mind tell them you will take it for such and such a price and it worked for me...

Success wise if you base this online im not too sure - in my area the yellow pages booklet certainly helped & worked for me but im not sure i got anything from the ad i did on yell.com. id stick to the free one...

Unless you have your own website which intun links through from the ad im sure your money would be best off spent elsewhere...

im sure others on here have used yell and can offer some further help

I think most of us have tried Yelow Pages ads at some point or another - to varying degrees of success.

Yes, you do get some enquiries via the ads, but many of us have found that the number of good quality bookings received wasn't worth the price of the ad. (Remember, the figure you should be looking at comparing the cost of the ad to is the PROFIT from each gig that you get from the ad).

Some people have also reduced the size of their ad and received MORE bookings than from a larger ad.

Personally, we didn't find that the number and type of enquiries received via Yellow Pages was worth the expense.... the money can be better spend elsewhere. However, I am sure that others have different experiences and it probably varies from region to region and the type of events that you are marketing yourself towards.

Have to say would advise spending good money the more you spemd the more they will get you to spend, and the reap is not that good.
In this day and age I would look to get your search engines running for you.
Thats my opinion

Hoe it helps

Yep, Pete's right.. you're better off getting a good website running and getting it on plenty of online directories, these are much cheaper than Yell and bring in better work in my experience.

However, i've gained a couple of regular venues and a good run of kids parties all from one original enquiry, due to being in the YP - so its not all bad! On the other hand, i have had several price hunters too.

Right I would say stick to a 15mm advert mine hase my internet address at the top where the disco name is as its the name of my disco as such

ie www.have-a-disco.co.uk

this will give me people without having to pay £500 for the yell.com link that they are quoting

a 15mm ad will cost me £141.00 spread over 10 months from when the book comes out which is very affordable will ad a picture of style asap

I was thinking of adding my website address to my ad for next year. But to be honest, i think people looking in the book would just phone rather than go to the website.

If people wanted to find and look at DJ's websites, then they'd use the net to search for them in the first place.

charlie my experience is it increases phone calls 90% of these will be "how much do you charge?" dont care what you do whether youre legal or not or whether you use a walkman and a ropelight if you cost £50 youre the man for us.

not many of the yp brigade are interested in a good disco/dj just a low price you do get one or 2 normal people calling and booking but in my experience most fall into the first catagory.

sometimes yes but when they dont let you talk to them and just keep repeating the words " i just want to know how much?" "im just after a price" over what you are trying to say it becomes a little difficult my other half has adopted the £600 technique she sometimes says yep its £600 ..... really?? comes the reply .... no but now ive got your attention let me tell you a bit about what we do.

i still maintain though a certain type of person with a certain budget in mind looks in yp and that from experience not the same budget im looking at. just my thoughts.

Yellow Pages, when you sign up for the 'free ad' sell your details to loads of companies.
My phone has not stopped with sales callers since I joined up with them.:bang:

Put your money to better use.
