Best/Worst Buy of 2013

As we near the end of 2013, thought I would ask which of your purchses this year has pleased you the most or maybe which are you most disappointed with.

No disappointing purchases for me this year so it was a toss up between a pair of RCF 902as or the Acme Mirrage for me, with Mirrage just coming out on top for value for money.

Your best/worst purchaes of 2013 ladies and gentlemen?

The only thing I bought this year was a van, which was a cracking buy. Low mileage and in great condition.


*Edit. Just remembered something else. Equinox Mightybar. Great unit but it didn't have the dimming functionality via the remote control that I had wanted. So that was my worst buy.

Best - a tie between Ultimax Gig bag for my my stands or bags for my TV's. Or DJintelligence... Actually DJ intelligence.

Worst - possibly the second website, it's serving a purpose at the mo, but only just. An though it is a great bit of kit, the Greenwich Instruments DMX controller just isn't getting good use.

Hmmmmm. Self preservation dictates that I make no smartarse comment here, but sympathise with Shaun, and say that if I knew how to slove his problem, I would share this knowledge. ( I'm sure that it's perfectly feasible to take a standard DMX controller, and transmit its output wirelessly to far flung corners of rooms, but as I said, I don't know how. )

Best buy of 2013? A couple of lasers which go out a lot. Two 250w moonflowers off Ebay, which arrived with power leads, DMX leads, and a CA-3 type remote, all for the princely sum of £30. A W-Audio Epic speaker rig which has outperformed its expectations by a long long way.

Pride of place though must go by a country mile to my VMS4.1, which has revolutionised my way of working. One of the best things I've ever bought.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Don't tell me the blasted thing's been superceded? Will this headlong dash for advancement never end?

Edit: Panic over. A quick google reveals it to be the two channel version of mine. Phew!

( Though what use a two channel mixer is to anyone simply baffles me. ) :daft:

Simples. When doing Karaoke, or having time to set up at leisure, it's one laptop into the VMS, the other into an ESI soundcard, into the two analog inputs. This allows one laptop to run music only, and one Karaoke. An ideal situation.

Increasingly though, I prefer the first laptop as before, with my tablet running into channel 3 from its headphone socket ( I could use a soundcard if I wished ) as a backup ( and if I get everything working right, a download system ) and a cable into channel 4 ready for anyone with the tune they must have played from their phone. That can earn you immense kudos on occasion ( or drop you in it. Life's like that ) :D

Nice to have options, and backup.

Worse - A small laser - Normally i do not by cheap things and i understand why now.

Best buy was a pair of Chauvet obsession 2 lights.
Worse was the old story , brought cheap lamps from ebay :Censored:, never again ( well I wouldn't with all LED`s now.....;))

My best buy was the Pioneer DDJ-SX controller and a new MacBook. Used a lot of different head units/play-out kit in my time and finally found one I really like.
Worst was probably the ADJ LED Pixel Tube 360 kit (10) - nothing wrong with them at all, but never had the time frame or space to set them up for a gig and make em look good.

Certainly my worst buy was 4 Peavey Impulse 12D active speakers. All four failed at different times within 3 months of purchase with differing faults and were replaced one at a time.

To their credit, both Disco World and Peavey themselves were very sympathetic and helpful and culminated in all 4 I currently had being further replaced by a special delivery from the Peavey rep to my house with 4 brand new Peavey HiSys 12Ds.

So far so good and so good that these are the contender for best buy of 2013.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't actually bought anything in 2013. In late 2012 I re-branded clothing, business cards & flyers, re-worked the website, sorted out my lighting and bought an equinox screen - and I haven't had to buy anything since (other than music) as I'd bought a pair of RCF's and new playout the year before.

I might have to rectify that before my financial year end in April though :D

Best buy ever though, RCF 422a's. Still sound great, still haven't given me any grief and I can still carry them in one hand :D

I bought a pair of RCF 12HDAs this year and love them, fab speakers.

By far my best purchase was my Sony A58 DSLT camera. Taking some nice gig shots now and having brides commented on the pictures when im meeting with them.

The worst would be the pair of peavey active pro subs, nothing wrong with them but coming from the da audio clubmate subs before these, they had a lot to live up to.
