My quiz league starts again on Wednesday and I'm struggling for ideas for specialist subjects.

I use a specialist subject every week, so am looking for around 10.

I have been running this league for over 10 years, so am looking for something a little different but not too obscure.

I'll give you the one's I used for last seasons quiz:

1970s sport
Alcoholic beverages
Film – Westerns
TV comedy
1960s news
20th century history
Literature
Musicals

They must be fairly interesting and nothing too technical.

Any ideas?

What about news stories from the last week? (or do you do a 'current affairs' section in your general sections?)

I have 2 general knowledge rounds, both of which have current affairs questions, and I also do a dedicated 'in the news this week' round of 15 questions a couple of times during the league.:)

I thought I did a round on kids TV, but have just checked the last 7 years and it wasn't a specialist subject, so that's on the list:thanks:

You got a link for the silly laws Dave?

I do a trivia trail type round already - is that what you mean?

Last letter of the first answer starts the next answer etc

Good idea, but not really a 'specialist subject', if you see what I mean?

More of a guessing round. I might be able to use it as a different round rather than the specialist one.:)

makes of cars to companies ie sierra = ford

golf ball/club makes

Types of Needles ie crotchy, record etc etc

picture connections

The Simpsons

these are a few that have completely thrown teams on a quiz night I have done in the past can find loads of subjects but the wild card round I did threw even the best simplisity is best go around and do a supermarket sweep round ie prices of goods etc etc most blokes will be completely stuffed

What about companies that are/were connected? Or marketed as different brands in different countries for example- Vauxhall, Crysler, Opal & Hillman have all had an Avenger, when Datsun cahnged to Nissan they kept the same model names etc.

A good idea in principle, but I don't think it's workable.

Specialist round's i've used:

The Simpson's never has never failed me

Phobias - you name the phobia, they tell you what it is. My favourite is Arachibutyrophobia - fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth.

The weird round I often use is the Fish or False round. You say a word, they say if it's a fish or if it's false. You can put stupid words in - its amazing how many people thought Hoover was a fish. Then you can really mock them when explaining what a hoover is...
