Hi there,
I have a set of Class D CD12SP's I've used for years, recently I've noticed one of them has developed a nasty popping noise when it gets too much bass sent to it.
Is this repairable or is it game over?
Ta.
Have you done a visual check of the cone for rips? Sounds like an over driven voice coil. Either way its either a recone or new driver, IMO.

Unfortunately, as we know, Class D don't seem to be in existence, and I have no idea where any of the lads have gone. Thus, an exact replacement is only possible with s/h units. Whether they are repairable, I know not, but it's quite possible that repairing one could cost nearly as much as two new comparable drivers. I used to buy the 15" drivers from Class D for £25 each.
You could try someone like these guys. http://www.djrepairs.co.uk/speaker-repairs/shipley/yorkshire/
Or you could try http://www.speaker-repairs.co.uk Who supply reconing kits, you have to supply them with the cone/ voice coil diameter and throw measurements and they will match up a kit to suit. I have reconed a 12" active sub driver, as the chassis was unique to the cab. A bit sceptical at first but followed the instruction and the driver was reconed successfully and sounded great!
