Inappropriate Songs That Always Seem to Be Played at Weddings

1 "I Will Survive," Gloria Gaynor (It's a breakup song, people.)
2 "Love the One You're With," Stephen Stills (Not exactly sending the right message to the newlyweds.)
3 "Brick House," The Commodores (That'll boost the bride's self-esteem.)
4 "Tainted Love," Soft Cell/Gloria Jones (You've got to run away, groom!)

can you think of anymore along these lines

Actually, it's not.

I watched a documentry about it a while ago.

It's about the songwriter and him losing his job at the studio he was working and how he thought he could survive on his own.

I can't remember the exact story, but it was along those lines and they said that people always thought it was about a breakup of a couple, but it wasn't.

Not quite the same as weddings, but I do some work for a local Hospital Radio stationa nd one of our most requested songs is "My Way" by Sinatra ('...and now, the end is near, and so I face, the final curtain'), and another is "Time to Say Goodbye" by Sara Brightman and Andrea Bocelli... Songs about passing on requested by patients in a hospital!

'Kiss and Say Goodbye'
The Manhattans

Super tune, but the opening line is...

"This has got to be the saddest day of my life"

We have in the past, had two of the worlds greatest "junkie" songs requested as first dances

Lou Reed - Perfect day
& RHCP - Under the bridge

:offtopic: Do you think All Saints management were having a laugh at the girls expense when they told them to record UTB Coupled with a song about a Louisiana hooker (Lady Marmalade) ? :D    :D :offtopic:

The best I had was "You're the one that I want" the B&G even had a little dance routine worked out for it

Had a B & G that were Durannies - wanted 'Save a Prayer' as their first dance until I pointed out that it's about having a one-night stand with a prostitute...

...and then the legendary one where it was a Goth wedding on Hallowe'en, they had Type O Negative 'Black No 1' (look up the lyrics!)

i think the other point here is why play those songs anyway, regardless of what they are about as they are rubbish.

"spirit in the sky" - always makes me cringe when the old folk are dancing and joining in at weddings or at older folks b/day parties.

there is most definitely good cheese and bad cheese.
fair enough, i can add the imho bit if it makes you happy (IMHO) but I would genuinely never play those songs.
especially gaynor.

especially gaynor. So - if the B & G requested one of those songs as their first dance - you would simply refuse to play it for them, despite the fact that the song obviously means a lot to them?
