hi
now i dont know if this is a common problem but today i had a scare when one of my revo 3's started smoking all by itself in the van.
The wife spotted it as i was changing a puncture and we couldnt work out what had happened at first.
Turns out the sun had been shining on it through the back window and this had caused it to heat up a part of the circuit board like when you hold a magnifying glass to something.
if we hadnt seen it, it could have burst into flames or anything so we were well lucky.
it burned through about 4 of the leds and surrounding circuit board.
thought i would put this on here so that when you pack them away if you havent got boxes for them watch which way the lens is stored just in case.

Not a good day for you then. First a puncture then your lights spontaneously combusting!

I don't know if there is anything on the Revo lights or in the manual, but on the top of the Chauvet Vue III light (very similar) it's got a big sticker warning you about exactly this scenario.

Mine is bagged so I've thankfully never had this issue.

I guess if you think about it, it makes sense that this would happen! But, to be honest, I wouldn't have considered it either :(

Close call ;)

Mine is bagged so I've thankfully never had this issue.I was gonna say, surely they were bagged or flightcased?

Thanks for taking the time to post. It's a useful thing to know.

This scenario is pretty obvious - in hindsight, of course! ;)

I doubt many people would have realised this without the warning which is why some manufacturers do include these warnings. So, thanks for the post as I'm sure a lot of people will be rethinking how they transport these types of light effects!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but also learned a lesson about protecting equipment with bags and flightcases.
if this light had been bagged, there would of been no problem but not everyone can afford the prices of some of these flightcases and bags and sometimes they are just placed in the van as they are.
tried the light yesterday and it still works which is a result and there is only 4 leds gone which is hardly noticable but i wonder if it will pass the pat test again so im going to leave it at home now unless i can replace the part of the circuit board that has burned.

Bags can be purchased relatively cheaply though. It's worthwhile factoring in some kind of case or bag with every item you buy. Not only will it help keep the items in cosmetically good condition, it'll ultimately protect your investment in the long run and help it retain more value should you want to sell it at some point.

Absolutely. I have always had either flightcases or bags and my gear is immaculate, looks great and will sell for a decent price too.

A good strong cardboard box of an appropriate size (free), reinforced with a wrapping of black duct tape (£2ish) makes an excellent alternative, and can be surprisingly durable for a fraction of the price of a case or bag.

Arriba/ADJ bags from a certain German website are now around the £20 mark. It's not like we're talking swanflight £100+ any more :)

I have replaced parts in the revo 3/ impossibled fixtures - it's fairly easy, they are packed quite tightly though.
You can order parts From ADJ - they come from america so not too sure on the shipping fee?
Might be better to Ask around local repair shops?

It would be better to e-mail ADJ first, and tell them the background to the problem, with a pic of the affected parts first. I recently had a problem with the 'wands' on one of their large bubble machines, I explained I'd tried to obtain spares from their dealers without success, to their credit, they replaced them for me free of charge. The machine had been purchased S/H and I didn't have a guarantee

I purchased a Revo 3 yesterday. It does state on the website and user manual to keep these fixtures out of the sun. The large fresno lens at the front acts like a magnifying glass in reverse. Sunlight falling directly on it can be focused sharply inside the unit causing the issues mentioned by the op.
