RCF 902as - should I be concerned?

I have 2 of these that I use with RCF HD12as and love them.

Sometimes I use 1 and for larger gigs I use both. Either way, I have never even seen the signal light come on, yet alone the limit light. Even when I am running 1 sub and both tops, with the mixer at 3/4 volume, the signal light on the tops blinks to the beat and sometimes goes constant but no clipping light, but absolutely nothing on the sub.

The sound is not distorting and still sounds great. The situation is the same with both subs.

Should I be concerned?

Surprised you're getting the limiter kicking in on the HD12's if your using a sub. I'd expect the sub limits to be going if the tops are.

Are you running the tops full range or via the subs crossover?

No the limit light is not coming on. With the tops, at a reasonable volume the signal light comes on, initially flashing to the beat and then going on constant as the volume increases. If you push them even further, which I have never done, then the limit/clipping light comes on.

With the subs, no light seems to come on no matter how hard you push them.

I am running the subs at a 80hz crossover, so the tops don't receive a full range signal.

I control the eq and volume from the mixer.

I'm not surprised - I'm running RCF422a's and I've never seen the clip light. RCF seem to have a policy of setting the lights so it takes a lot to make them show (or just make equipment that can work hard).

0db on RCF speakers is at 12'o'clock I believe. Aren't you getting a lot of background noise running the speakers full whack like that?

No.

The manual and back plate have no mention of 0db, just a volume control. No background noise at all.

OK - I've probably got that wrong with the RCF's I've owned over the years then.

If you're concerned the signal/limit lights aren't working just turn it up until they do - and if they don't then get it checked.

I don't think you have.

Unless they have changed anything, the maximum gain on my 705as subs is at 12 o'clock. I know this for a fact as I had a small issue and rang RCF to ask them.

Having the gain all the way open and not getting any signal light seems very strange indeed. I would contact RCF and ask the question.

I have, and they said that as long as it sound ok it probably was ok.

Also, as it is the same for both subs which are only 7 months old, the chance of both having the same fault was remote.

They said similarly to play both channels through one sub at max volume and test the lights that way. Havent had the oppotunity as would need an empty venue! Also reluctant to drive 1 sub that hard in case I cause damage.
