I Use a couple of Peavey PVX powered speakers 15inch with Denon 600 mixer.

Problem I have is with the speakers shutting of mid set.

First I thought I was using too much volume, but the venues are quite small 80-150 people, and the volume is not that high (although it does not happen at a very low level).....then I thought it was my Mic gain, as It happened once whilst I was using the microphone and I do tend to speak over the music instead of lowering the volume first...

I added a Sub hoping this would solve the problem but this Saturday one speaker shut off again towards the end of the night........the hall was very hot (in excess of 20 degrees, so I am thinking it was the heat.....today I was doing a School disco and one of the speakers shut off again.....I switched it's power of and gave it 10 minutes, then it worked again.....again it was very warm in the hall...

I have the speakers set at 12 o'clock....the denon master gain is between 9-10....the Mic gain is at 11...

Is it caused by the warm weather....or something I am doing wrong with the settings.....or are the speakers just not powerful enough..(800 peak a pair)

Help would be appreciated..

Curious. I got a pair of Wharfedale Titans ( the older ones ) with one allegedly cutting out on mic use. Didn't bother me really, as I wanted them as monitors for karaoke. Guess what? They wouldn't cut out for me. They were so good that I started to use them as my main PA, with no cutting out. And then they started to cut out, and restart fine, shortly after being switched off and on again. Turns out it was a known fault with the power supply on them.

If your Peaveys have their new digital amp out of the IPR, I'd be amazed if you could stop it short of turning an acetylene torch on the back of it. I know folk who were given them and urged to blow them up, but couldn't make them falter at all.

It seems very strange.

Moving to 'Sound Technical Help' Forum. Where possible, please take a quick moment to ensure you are posting new threads in the most relevant forum section. This aids us in keeping the place as organised as possible, and helps finding information at a later date much easier. Thank you. :) :beer1:

Its either poor design (which I doubt with Peavey) or the amps are faulty.

Other than that I would keep the amp heatsink's clear so they get plenty of fresh air onto them.

If the amps have fans then perhaps they have gone faulty ?

I would get them checked at an audio workshop by an expert.

Just been doing an engagement party tonight and kept an eye on the speakers..... I noticed the fan was not working on one speaker, although it was warm to touch... the other speaker the fan was on most of the time...so that's likely to be the problem and hopefully easy to resolve without having to send it back on warranty.....

I did a gig many years ago.
I left my pint on top of the amplifier.
After a couple of hours I took a sip and it was red hot !
I touched the top of the amplifier and it was red hot, too hot to touch.
The fan had failed inside the amplifier and it had cooked itself.
Just how far off the amp was failing is anyones guess.
Luckily the end of the night came before the amplifier failed.

I build my own amplifiers so what I do now is have 2 fans at opposite corners of the amp.
So if one fails the other is still working.
