Passive speakers showerproof?

Bit of a odd one and can find no real help on web.

Having a bbq today and with the showers forecast for later was wondering if I put a passive cab outside it would stand up to a shower or 2.

Im using a w-audio plastic moulded passive cab.

It goes without saying amp etc will be indoors with just a speakon coming out the cat flap lol.

Am i better to get the old black bags and gaffer out and make a nice jacket?

Put a bin liner over it. won't affect high end too much and should be very shower proof.

The reality is it wouldn't make much difference. Speaker impedance 4ohms, Rain impedance 10Kohms, that means the rain will make very little difference to the speaker impedance, which likewise will make very little difference to the amp. Rain in the amp... well that's a different matter :D

There's two things to worry about with water and speakers: 1. Rain getting onto the speaker cones or the voice coil(s) as the cones are paper/cardboard and the metals around the voice coil tend to rust. Rust in the moving path of the voice coil means very bad things to the sound. 2. Rain getting onto other metals/casings and causing corrosion or cosmetic damage.

Bin bag will do it.

2 thin ones would suffice, just in case and make sure water does not collection top by angling the speaker if poss.

I built my own pair of speakers using veneered chipboard.
They worked great.
Until one night it poured down and they got wet being carried in.
They swelled up and looked terrible.
