More marque issues

A few of you may recall my issues last week with an in house marque PA system.

Well another Saturday in June, another margue wedding in the New Forrest.

Did site visit, all well. New of limiter but assured it was at reasonable level.

Start setting up to be told speakers are not aloud on stands! Must sit on the floor. Was only gonna use one sub under booth. Luckily, had brought second sub "in case of need". Retreave second sub from car to put on floor. Wire up all four speakers. Though out the night, LEDs on limiter didn't move, even giving it some beans with both subs.

Find out at 10.30, limiter had been left on monitor, not active! Happy days and revenge is sweet.

Have any of you come across other strange set up limitations?

The Uffculme Centre in Moseley, Birmingham. They had as list of H&S garbage that spanned two pages and was so spectacular, that I forwarded it onto all my DJ friends. Wish I still had it now, it was that funny.

Speakers couldn't be more than four feet off the ground (anything bad that may or may not have happened from that would surely come out of my PLI, but hey ho).

She asked me if I monitor the volume and I told her that I most certainly do. When she enquired what method I use, I replied "ears." She looked at me funny, and I said "If I can still hears guests talking, it's too quiet. If they are standing next to each other and are shouting, it's too loud. I like the use the sweet spot in between." That upset her.

She blasted the couple during my site visit for wanting candles, which will set off the smoke alarms...apparently. Damn that couple for wanting what they want on their wedding day (I phoned up the bride after the meeting and told her to bring candles on the day - nobody is going to say no to the bride on her wedding day)!

She also blasted her predecessor for sometimes allowing gigs to finish past midnight. Up to this point, I just nodded and thought "just let it go", but it was here that I got annoyed, so I challenged her on this. I basically said to her that if there is a room full of people having a good time, the DJ has been paid a little extra and is happy to continue, the venue staff are happy to go an extra hour with overtime pay and you continue making money behind the bar, what's the problem?

Then the whole spiel of PAT/PLI/Taping down leads (take these two eggs, place in mouth, create vacuum).

I'll always remember this bit: She then asked me if I have done a risk assessment to which I replied "Not yet." She got really annoyed and asked why not, to which I replied "'cos I've been sitting here with you since I got here. I assume you would find it rude for me to randomly get up and walk off to do paperwork." She then said "you can be very facetious, can't you?" to which I replied "Yup. Did you know that 'facetious' is the shortest word in the English language that has all the vowels in the correct order?"

At which point she stormed off. My charm strikes again!

There was so much more. I'm gonna have to see if I can track it down.

Did the gig two weeks later. Nobody died, which was surprising. :rolleyes:

Needless to say, Uffculme are on the banned list.

Looks like that venue will be on my ban list as well
