View Full Version : The Witty Comeback Thread!

Can't see anything similar to this, and I thought this would be a bit of fun, so here goes!

Hopefully I'll explain this well enough. I'll start off with a punter comment/question and the next poster replies with their witty comeback, followed by their own punter comment/question, and so on and so forth.

I'll start with the obvious one:

"Alright, mate. I'm a DJ too!" ;)

This is the sort of thing that I think makes us appear unprofessional....so count me out.

Obviously not very busy then if you're here tonight.

Punter comment " can you stick to the playlist". Your reply?

What's unprofessional about it?

Well...think if a member of the public came across the thread for a start......

Benny Smyth

Do you think there's a lot of traffic on here from those who aren't DJs?

Do you find yourself browsing on forums for plumbers?

DeckstarDeluxe

Yes the general public do come across the forum, but hey what do I know I haven't been here that long :)

Benny Smyth
29-06-2014, 04:57 PM
I have no doubt that members of the public come across the forum. Some might even attempt at a nosey but is there anything here that would be of interest to a none DJ? Hence my example of a plumber's forum. I'm sure at least one exists and that I could register and read through threads if I so choose, but since it would be a forum aimed at a specific target audience - same as this forum - would it be engaging enough for your average Internet browser?

And what about the Good gig/Bad gig thread? Surely telling stories about all the bad things that can happen at a gig - like talking about the nightmare that was the bride's mother - is just as "unprofessional"?

I'm not being argumentative, by the way.

:)

If you're silly enough to say one of these to a serious guest then yes unprofessional but I this forum is an escape and it's only a bit of fun.

The only issue is I don't find insulting witty comebacks funny :-(

Can I stick to the playlist? Sorry I didn't get enough Jam

That's the best I've got!

Can you skip this song?

Oh, I see. You associate comebacks with negativity and when I don't come out with the best reply, you give off a sarcastic comment which could arguably be something that you didn't want to partake in, in the first place.

Gotcha.

Well it was hardly Wildean was it...

I've no problem being sarcastic to fellow DJ's, they're fair game (though it's hardly a fair sport), I draw the line at unleashing my tongue on customers.

But to be honest seeing the 'cutting jibes' so far on this thread I wouldn't recommend anyone be too quick to unsheathe their verbal sword.

You been reading Mark Twain again?

Martin, I'm surprised to see you make such a cutting remark!! :coat:

Serious time. make the most of it, it's a rare and precious thing. :

Perhaps not, but there's a hell of a lot of traffic by these Bots and Crawlers which inhabit the internet. This place is one of the busiest for them, and you'd be surprised what becomes public because of them.

Scroll to the top of the forum. What are the words at the top left?

:)The directory does bring traffic to the forum & while some areas of the forum are locked down (some even require a subscription to read) Chat isn't one of them. Anyone can read this & threads from the forum often show up in Google searches.

And based on the quote you took from me, where did I contradict that? Or did you just miss the point I was making? Just because people CAN access something does not mean that they WILL access it. What is here that is of interest to anyone who is not a DJ? I'm sure that on this interweb that I can access the My Little Pony fan club and even though I may come across it as a by product of something else, it doesn't mean that I'll have a look for long enough to register anything I see.

I'm am amused at the fact that I have to defend this bit of 'attempted banter' though. If you have no interest in taking part, then that is fine but the constant negativity is discouraging to say the least. If there was no interest in this, the thread would have dropped down into obscurity but because of the immediate "This is unprofessional" comment, followed by others giving reasons why this is a 'bad idea', anyone who may have wanted to partake would now think twice.

I tried to inspire a fun conversation. It may have worked, or it may not have. The conversation that has resulted from it is surely fit for it's own thread topic, but instead I sit here watching something that I see all the time on forums - jumping on the backs of the guys and girls not established on the forum yet. I see new people fall away from a forum so often because the environment is like a clique.

So I'll tell you what - if this is such a bad thread that will be detrimental to the business of professional mobile entertainment, then please lock/delete it. If, however, this is just you chucking in your opinion and not contributing to the original concept of the thread by staying on topic (as per the rules of this forum), then please refrain from doing so and see if this thread takes off or dies on it's backside.

But then, saying that, that may just be me wanting to live in a warm and welcoming world.

A few fairly mild saucy remarks directed at you and you throw your toys out of the pram (funny how I knew that would happen) - yet you think it's OK to treat a guest at the party in that way. You obviously don't appreciate being made to feel like an idiot - so it's a fair assumption no one does, it's not warm or welcoming!

Did I say anything about the remarks made at me? You want to poke fun at me, you certainly can do so. It's something I welcome with open arms.

Moreover, again, who said that the comeback have to be negative? That is your own perception from this. Not something I said.

Well you certainly seemed to take exception when I quipped about your 'nope' comeback.

But you're right, a witty comeback doesn't need to be negative....inventive and humorous is a must though :D

Groom - can you turn the music up mate, let's get dancing. (No please take note)

Groom 10 seconds later - Er the missus says can you turn it down again we're still eating and we got to cut the cake again yet (news to me).

First domestic ensuing.

Later. Guest - Can you play some chart music. I was playing Mr Probz at the time. So I carried on. To an empty dancefloor. 10 minutes later - same guest - got any Abba.

Me - Yes, thanks. You got any manners? Blank look.

Shame then, that as a moderator I still have to read the tedious pile of :Censored:
