Nice to meet you all in this fine place.
I was a 70's DJ. Started out with two odd decks (one made by Garrod and the other by that well known company,Tensai). Cobbled together with some Goodmans hi-fi speakers and a few lights borrowed from the road works! I did progress to buying an all in DJ package from an ad. in the daily mail with a massive 100watt mono output in the 80's but work sort of killed things off as well as other commitments. Worst thing I can remember doing was leaving a box of 45's on the back seat of the car and the heat from the sun warped them. Tried to flatten them in the steam from a kettle but wasn't very successful :( .
About 6 years ago, I started working for a company that had a band and we were pretty good at 3 chord rock n'roll. Unfortunately after about 12 months the lead guitarist left and he owned all the gear we used so we were gearless. So I picked up a fender amp and some speakers off of Ebay but other band members moved on so I just used it as a PA system for quizes and done disco's for a few office and private parties.
Last year I quit my job. Wanted to get out of the rat race and became self employed working in IT.
I done a couple of parties with my "Fender" outfit but thought I would upgrade a bit for my nieces 16th birthday. Her friends were so impressed that I got more bookings. I sort of keep upgrading and now have two amps, subs and tops, crossover, Ultrafex, some cheapo lights PLI (Musicians Union) PAT etc. At the moment I am only doing referrals and family parties but am getting around to advertising and doing my own website. Most of the referrals are for teenage parties. The DJ'ing is now becoming part of my future business plan because I enjoy it so much and get paid for having fun (wish I had done it years ago).
At the moment I am winding down the IT business (its just too cut throat and too many "Dave Double Decks" equivalents) and concentrating more on website design and DJ'ing.
In my previous working life, I worked in insurance and one of my speciality subjects was PLI so if anyone has any PLI queries, don't ask me because I hate anything insurance related! :)
