Hi there,
Been lurking around for a few weeks looking at different threads and have decided to take the plunge and say hello.
I have been involved in the music industry for over 25 years, in fact nearly 30 years, mainly as a drummer gigging in various bands, but mainly in a ceilidh band working through an agent, in some of the best venues throughout the UK and some far flung places throughout the world. However as the ceilidh scene evolved over the years, it became apparent that a full ceilidh all night was proving not as popular, and as well as the economic downturn, the ceilidh scene was getting quiet. In addition to this our agent also was concentrating on a few of his famous acts and has not focusing on the bread and butter acts, so I decided to say to the accordionist to add the disco part as an option about 6 or 7 years ago and invested in lights etc. I had a large music collection anyway, so I was in a good place to start. At the same time however, I started doing some DJ work for an agent, and still do some work for him, as well as freelancing around different ceilidh bands drumming.
Over the years I have changed lights, and now work with a mix of LEDs and lasers and have just purchased new EV 12" tops, and for bigger venues, have retained my old LD Dave 15 system and can piggy back the LD sub, from the EVs. I have to say, the sound using the sub is excellent. After all the investment in equipment, I decided to do a couple of wedding fayres and have built a website as well to promote my services.
I have done a few ceilidhs on my own using my own music and calling people through the dances as well as a few silent discos which have been a hoot.
So that is really my musical career in a few short paragraphs.
