I personally wouldn't have accepted that as a valid excuse. Having been in that situation myself and still attending just a few days after, everybody is different and deals with it differently but I would have at least provided them with another DJ at my expense.

Indeed. On Thursday 18 September this year I had a heart attack and was rushed to hospital. After numerous tests it was obvious by 1200 the following day that my gigs on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 needed covering as I was being admitted for an operation.

So, on the phone I went and covered my work for that weekend. I had my op on Monday morning and was told it would be 8 to 12 weeks before I would be back in action, so I've duly covered all wlrk for October & November.

Never considered just crying off, simply wanted my customer to be looked after.

£40 for a birthday DJ, not a wedding DJ. Some punters would think was high, too! :eek:

Seriously, it's rogue operators like this one and the guy off Watchdog that bring down people's opinions of us. At least the prison sentence sends out a warning to others like him that operating like this won't be tolerated. That's something, I suppose.

This should also be done for people who download illegal music! They should pay double the value of each track, which for the "I've got 50,000 tracks" DJ's would be a lot of money!!

50,000? I've seen guys advertise that they have over 3 million!!! (I'm not even sure how it's possible to amass that amount of music but yeah, nice way to let everyone know that you're either super rich and just doing it for the love of DJing or, as is more likely, you're a thieving tink)

Just checked mine - I have 6,000 (taken off 800 as they are probably just rubbish) and I hardly have to buy new music for the average set list. I do weddings, older private function and younger events so god knows what music someone with 3 million has LOL.

It has grown about 500 each year on average from 3,000. :)

It would be interesting to see what others have. i might add a poll thread.

It would actually be (impossible but fun) to collate everyone's playlists, you can nigh on gaurantee you there's probably less than 1000 unique tunes played by all of us in any given year.

10 seconds a track ... you need to get fibre optic mate :P

Another statistic - If there was a completely new top 40 every week you'd download just over 2000 tracks a year.
And Another - If every track was 8Mb and you had 3 million you'd need a 15TB hard drive!!!

You gentlemen are completely missing the point. It's all about saying "mine's bigger." :p

Telling folk that you have 3 million tracks just opens you up for that moment of failure when someone asks for a song, and you don't have it. Gone are the days that we used to have to be very selective with our song purchases due to having to lug vinyl or CD's around. Now we can have whatever we want, whenever we want.

Not being negative of the digital age - I am a laptop DJ and proud of it - but these days I have songs on my laptop where I think to myself "Really? Why do I have that?" but keep it just in case.

My point wasn't about physically having 3 million tracks. It was about having access to them. I was referring to streaming to them via an internet connection. The controller I linked to can mix songs streamed from your iTunes or Spotify account. I think a legimate streaming subscription service (as in one that professional DJs can use live) won't be too far away.

Nowadays our clients probably have music collections that equal ours, or at the very least know a large collection is within the reach of anyone with a computer, so using it as a sales point just come across as having nothing else to offer (same as long lists of equipment).
