What was YOUR first dance at your wedding (weddings if you've been married more than once).

Second Dance was - Madness - Baggy Trousers

Gabrielle - Sunshine. Chosen on the night and placed into the hands of the DJ on CD about 10mins before it was due to start.

Last song of the night - not a clue, the hotel messed up our room booking so we ended up in a penthouse suite at another hotel which meant we had to leave early. We left our guests to it :D

Looking back now after working at god knows how many weddings, we hired someone with no experience, and we didn't have a clue either.

I'm getting married in a couple of months. It's not a particularly traditional wedding and we're not having a specific first dance, I've seen the terror it invokes in plenty of grooms (and some brides)! Neither of us can dance (well, except for my raving moves) and we've not got 'our song' so I don't think we need to inflict the embarassment on either us or our guests. We've got a friend's band playing who'll just be asked to start with something funky that will get people up and throwing shapes.

Was there a story behind this choice? Although one of my favourite songs, seems like an odd first dance!

It was / is a song we both love but more importantly it was the song my mate sang for us the night we got together when we were sat around a fire at a BBQ one summer.
I think too many people look into the lyrics of songs sometimes and worry if it's ok to have their chosen song as a first dance. I don't think it matters to be honest. I think if it has a special meaning to the couple then great.

My wife, being a massive Tina Turner fan, wanted her version of 'Let's stay together' for our first dance but I was having none of it so we compromised and had Al Green instead. The bloke playing from a load of copied CDs didn't have it (I won't call him a DJ) so it was just as well I took it along with me.

If we ever have a party like that again I won't just shrug and think 'how bad can a venue resident be?' :lol:

First wedding in 1969 like many people there was no entertainment and dancing at all - just a buffet and speeches in the village hall and then we left at about 6pm for our honeymoon.
Second wedding in 1982 we had our reception at Gullivers in Mayfair. We didn't have a first dance that I can recall (not everyone did back then) but the highspot of the evening was my wife's special request for the Gay Gordons which Fatman Graham Canter had to get specially for the night and Joy danced it with the late James Hamilton. I expect it was the first and last time it was ever played at Gullivers.
Third (and final!) wedding it was "Amazed" by Lonestar which was (and is) our song.
