Fogger/Hazer

Had a request to use fog at last night Halloween gig.

unfortunately, Due to lack of demand, I only have a small 400W fogger. TBH, it was no where powerful enough. When it was producing fog, it was okay, but it only bursts for about 10secs, then needs to warm back up again. The smoke vanishes very quickly.


I've been thinking for a while about getting a hazer, which some of the venues I work would accept, but so far, I've not got round to finding something suitable.


So, after last nights performance (or lack of) with my fogger, I'm going to look for a singe machine which could provide fog or haze, depending on the venue etc.

Can anyone recommend such a device? (Not wanting to spend silly amounts of money on this, probably around the £200 mark would be ideal)

Funnily enough I asked a dealer the same question on Saturday. Recommendation was an Antari machine which is about £300. I've been told by a number of people that all hazers under this price point are really just fan assisted foggers and prone to failure.

I'm sure someone will be able to tell you otherwise :D

If you get one with adjustable output like the Eurolite NH-30 then use Prolight's "light" fluid for general use and put the "medium" fluid in it for halloween. Well below your budget as well!

That is one I've looked at online previously, would 2 minutes of smoke, followed up by another x mins warm up be sufficient?
Will it produce haze consistently?

Anyone got any hands on feedback for this device?

I use the Chauvet Hurricane Haze 2D. Had it for just over a year now and no problems. If you look after your gear, it'll look after you. I think it's a very good hazer and comes in under £200.

The 3D is out now at a higher price. Supposed to be faster at heating and better dispersion but the 2D is more than good enough for my needs.

The remote allows you to control it. By having the timer at minimum setting so it is more or less continual. Then you can turn the output down or up to max and give thicker smoke when needed. Works really well for me. It also has a manual button to blast it when you need. Also, as it's 700 watts, the reheat time is really quick. You don't even notice it!

nothing better than being able to use haze in a venue to highlight and enhance your light show, however as your not likely to use it in every venue and only occasionally better to have a mid price unit.
bit like buying a rolls royce and only being able to drive it a couple of times a year, lot of money tied up to sit idle.

Luckily, my most used venue does allow it :)

I've found a Eurolite NH-30 for £110 delivered, so I'll give that a go and see how it performs. (Got to be better than my current fogger)

Have a good play with it at home in your garage first so you get a good idea of what settings will work for you.

The hazer arrived Monday.

Tested it in my kitchen, the wife was not impressed, fogged up the whole house quite quickly lol

I'll be using it at the weekend, see how it goes in situe with my Laserworld ES 400 RGB

I use Prolight "light" fluid nearly all the time and the medium if someone wants lots of smoke or for outside. If your happy with the fluid you're using it will be fine.

Good timing for this post. I looked at the eurolite and also reduced price neon neo (currently at £79), which are the same unit. Was not too keen on them as its quite large and looks suspiciously like a smoke machine (which needs time to heat up again between bursts) so I bought this this morning for a string of 70's theme nights in December in an attempt to make the disco ball rays stand out.

Got it for £91 and it is continuous (even output), light and compact. with some decent fluid it should do the job??

Used my new hazer last weekend, it certainly does the job.

I found it a little tricky to try and get working correctly on intermittent, seems to produce too much, or not enough haze/fog.

In the end I opted to control it manually, topping up the haze as required.

Towards the end of the night, I think the venue must have turned off the air con units. I had to turn off my hazer due to too much haze hanging around in the room.


A question.....

Does anyone have suggestions on the best positioning for these?
I had mine pointing onto the dance floor area, approx. 1 mtr back from the edge of the stage.
When giving a burst of haze, it actually pumps out quite a lot of smoke, quite quickly. Clouding the local area before thinning out into the required haze.

I'm wondering if it would be better to have towards the rear of the stage, or pointing at a wall? giving the smoke more chance to spread before hitting the lights etc.

Any suggestions?

I'm also going to try a light fluid to see what effect that has. (Cannot remember the current fluid exactly, but says something like "professional haze fluid")

Well,

Second outing for my hazer. Would not work. Power light comes on, but does not heat up, and nothing on the remote. Emailed the shop. Guessing its a return to sender item now.

Would love the hear how the Kam performed.

Got a reply from the shop, sending out a replacement, and will arrange for the old unit to be collected.

Hope it's just a one-off fault, and not a common problem.

Out of interest, what is you output like when using the intensity on the remote? Mine seemed to pump out a lot regardless of the setting. Min or max seemed to have no effect. The output looked the same.

Perhaps I just had a dodgy one.

Yup, with everything on lowest, nothing happened. Slowly increase the intensity (only had to move a little), "click" the unit came into life, pumping out loads of fog. The level of the intensity did not seem to affect the amount of fog it was producing.

Hence the question, or the possibility of a dodgy unit.

Hoping to get the replacement early next week. So I'll compare.

The density knob works fine on my one although you are best using the continuous button and turning it down to what you want, then switch it to timer. The manual button, however, pumps at full flow.

Not having much luck here.

Received the replacement unit.

Plugged in, turned on, buzzed into life, heater light on etc, looking good.

However, after 10 minutes, it would not product and output at all.


For some reason the green led on the controller is lighting up straight away. I could swear that this only lit up when it was ready for use.


Looks like another return to request :(

I've got a KAM KHM600 (I think it cost £120) and I'm suitable impressed with it considering the price.
It's my first haze machine but here's what I think of it:

Pros - fine haze much better than smoke. Controls are easy enough to understand and heats up quickly

Cons - Cannot set a constant small amount (well not small enough for my liking). If it's on intermittent the fan seems to blow the haze away from the target area and can be very cold in colder rooms.

I've only just got through my first bottle of haze fluid over the course of 4-5 gigs (one being Halloween so lots of haze) so it's still early days!
